Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and Efficacy of a 3-Dimensional Stent Retriever With Aspiration-Based Thrombectomy vs Aspiration-Based Thrombectomy Alone in Acute Ischemic Stroke Intervention: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Raul G Nogueira,Donald Frei,Jawad F. Kirmani,Osama O. Zaidat,Demetrius K. Lopes,Aquilla S Turk,Donald V. Heck,Brian Mason,Diogo C Haussen,Elad I. Levy,Elad I. Levy,Siddhart Mehta,Marc A Lazzaro,Michael Chen,Arnd Dörfler,Albert J Yoo,Colin P. Derdeyn,Lee H. Schwamm,David J. Langer,Adnan H. Siddiqui,Adnan H. Siddiqui +20 more
TL;DR: The present study provides class 1 evidence for the noninferiority of the 3-D stent retriever with aspiration vs aspiration alone in AIS, and future trials should evaluate whether these results can be generalized to other stent retrievers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute ischemic stroke: infarct core estimation on CT angiography source images depends on CT angiography protocol.
Benjamin Pulli,Pamela W. Schaefer,Reza Hakimelahi,Zeshan A. Chaudhry,Michael H. Lev,Joshua A Hirsch,R. Gilberto Gonzalez,Albert J Yoo +7 more
TL;DR: CTAngiography protocol changes designed to speed imaging and optimize arterial opacification are associated with significant overestimation of infarct size on CT angiography source images.
Journal ArticleDOI
Case volumes of intra-arterial and intravenous treatment of ischemic stroke in the USA
Joshua A Hirsch,Albert J Yoo,Raul G Nogueira,Luis A. Verduzco,Lee H. Schwamm,Johnny C. Pryor,James D. Rabinov,R. G. Gonzalez +7 more
TL;DR: A theoretical model identifies a potential for significant growth of this stroke therapy from the numbers of cases in which the Merci retrieval device was used and extrapolated the current case volume of intra-arterial stroke therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Time and Diffusion Lesion Size in Major Anterior Circulation Ischemic Strokes
Reza Hakimelahi,Behroze Vachha,William A. Copen,Giacomo D.E. Papini,Julian He,Mahmoud M. Higazi,Michael H. Lev,Pamela W. Schaefer,Albert J Yoo,Lee H. Schwamm,R. Gilberto Gonzalez +10 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that highly variable cerebral perfusion via the collateral circulation may primarily determine infarct growth dynamics in patients with documented internal carotid artery/middle cerebral artery occlusions within 30 hours of stroke onset.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mediation of the Relationship Between Endovascular Therapy and Functional Outcome by Follow-up Infarct Volume in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke.

M. Majoie +52 more
TL;DR: Following-up infarct volume partially mediated the relationship between treatment type with mRS score, as EVT was still significantly associated with functional outcome after adjustment for FIV, but treatment-reduced FIV explained only 12% of the treatment benefit.
