MRI before intraarterial therapy in ischemic stroke: feasibility, impact, and safety.
Claus Z Simonsen,Leif Sørensen,Sanja Karabegovic,Irene Klærke Mikkelsen,Marie Louise Schmitz,Niels Juul,Albert J Yoo,Grethe Andersen +7 more
TL;DR: It is feasible to triage patients for IAT using MRI with acceptable rates of poor outcome and symptomatic hemorrhage and good outcome was significantly associated with smaller diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) lesion size at presentation and not with the size of the perfusion lesion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Outcome after Intra-Arterial Stroke Therapy in the Very Elderly: Why is it so Heterogeneous?
TL;DR: Placing emphasis on pre-stroke independent living, smaller infarct core size, short procedure times, and avoiding general anesthesia where feasible, will help improve rates of good clinical outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combined Effect of Age and Baseline Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score on Post-Thrombectomy Clinical Outcomes in the MR CLEAN Registry.
Johanna M. Ospel,Johanna M. Ospel,Manon Kappelhof,Adrien E. Groot,Natalie E. LeCouffe,Jonathan M. Coutinho,Albert J Yoo,Lonneke S. F. Yo,Ludo F. M. Beenen,Wim H. van Zwam,Aad van der Lugt,Alida A Postma,Yvo B.W.E.M. Roos,Yvo B.W.E.M. Roos,Mayank Goyal,Charles B. L. M. Majoie +15 more
TL;DR: Although the proportion of poor outcomes following endovascular treatment was highest in older patients with low baseline ASPECTS, outcomes did not significantly differ from the main effect, and these results do not support withholding endov vascular treatment based n a combination of high age and low ASPECts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rescue Thrombectomy in Large Vessel Occlusion Strokes Leads to Better Outcomes than Intravenous Thrombolysis Alone: A 'Real World' Applicability of the Recent Trials.
Raul G Nogueira,Osama O. Zaidat,Alicia C. Castonguay,Diogo C Haussen,Coleman O. Martin,William E. Holloway,Nils Mueller-Kronast,Joey E. English,Italo Linfante,Guilherme Dabus,Tim W. Malisch,Franklin A. Marden,Hormozd Bozorgchami,Andrew R. Xavier,Ansaar T Rai,Michael T. Froehler,Aamir Badruddin,Thanh N. Nguyen,M. Asif Taqi,Michael G. Abraham,Vallabh Janardhan,Albert J Yoo,Hashem Shaltoni,Alex Abou-Chebl,Peng R Chen,Gavin W. Britz,Roberta Novakovic,Ashish Nanda,Ritesh Kaushal,Mohammad A. Issa,Michael Frankel,Rishi Gupta +31 more
TL;DR: The results support the ‘real-world' applicability of the recent thrombectomy trials and compare patients treated with the Solitaire FR™ device to non-IV rt-PA NASA patients to evaluate the impact of IV rT-PA on thromBectomy.
Book ChapterDOI
Endovascular Approaches to Acute Stroke
TL;DR: This data indicates that stroke is the third most common cause of death in industrialized nations, after myocardial infarction and cancer, and the single most common reason for permanent disability.
