Journal ArticleDOI
Potentials and costs of carbon dioxide mitigation in the world's buildings
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of bottom-up research conducted for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), based on the assessment of 80 country- or regional-level mitigation studies throughout the world.
Book ChapterDOI
Energy end-use: Buildings
Diana Ürge-Vorsatz,Nick Eyre,Peter Graham,Danny Harvey,Edgar G. Hertwich,Yi Jiang,Christian Kornevall,Mili Majumdar,James E. McMahon,Sevastianos Mirasgedis,Shuzo Murakami,Aleksandra Novikova,Kathryn B. Janda,O. Masera,Michael A. McNeil,Ksenia Petrichenko,Sergio Tirado Herrero,Eberhard Jochem +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, a number of low-energy and passive buildings, both retrofitted and newly constructed, already exist, demonstrating that low level of building energy performance is achievable, with the application of on-site and community-scale renewable energy sources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bottom–up assessment of potentials and costs of CO2 emission mitigation in the buildings sector: insights into the missing elements
TL;DR: In this article, the authors made a first attempt to assess the presently available literature in the field and concluded that the ballpark is right for the figures reporting the cost-effective potentials in the buildings sector; however, these assessments indeed need to be corrected by incurred transaction costs and co-benefits relevant for the particular assessment, as well as the potential of non-technological options.
Counting good: quantifying the co-benefits of improved efficiency in buildings
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a taxonomy of co-benefits, and then collates case studies found in the public domain in which certain co-benefit have been monetized/quantified.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of bottom-up sectoral and regional mitigation potentials
Monique Hoogwijk,Stephane de la Rue du Can,Aleksandra Novikova,Diana Ürge-Vorsatz,Eliane Blomen,Kornelis Blok +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the greenhouse gas mitigation potential of different economic sectors in three world regions is estimated using a bottom-up approach using a methodology similar to the one described in this paper.
