Journal ArticleDOI
Copper-containing mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles as multifunctional agent for bone regeneration
Alessandra Bari,Nora Bloise,Sonia Lucia Fiorilli,Giorgia Novajra,María Vallet-Regí,Giovanna Bruni,Almudena Torres-Pardo,José M. González-Calbet,Livia Visai,Chiara Vitale-Brovarone +9 more
TL;DR: The analysis of the bacterial viability, using different bacterial strains, and the morphological observation of the biofilm produced by the Staphylococcus epidermidis revealed the antimicrobial effectiveness of the Cu-MBG and the relative ionic extracts against both the bacterial growth and theBiofilm formation/dispersion, providing a true alternative to traditional antibiotic systemic therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antioxidant mesoporous Ce-doped bioactive glass nanoparticles with anti-inflammatory and pro-osteogenic activities.
Kai Zheng,Elisa Torre,Alessandra Bari,Nicola Taccardi,Clara Cassinelli,Marco Morra,Sonia Lucia Fiorilli,Chiara Vitale-Brovarone,Giorgio Iviglia,Aldo R. Boccaccini +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed antioxidant cerium-containing MBGNs (Ce-MBGNs) by using a post-impregnation strategy to incorporate Ce, through which the shape, pore structure, and dispersity of the nanoparticles were preserved.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hybrid injectable platforms for the in situ delivery of therapeutic ions from mesoporous glasses
Carlotta Pontremoli,Monica Boffito,Sonia Lucia Fiorilli,Rossella Laurano,Alessandro Torchio,Alessandra Bari,Chiara Tonda-Turo,Gianluca Ciardelli,Chiara Vitale-Brovarone +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an aerosol-assisted spray-drying method (MBG_Cu 2%_SD) was used to extract microspheres and spheroidal nanoparticles, which were then synthesized by a sol-gel synthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electrophoretic deposition of spray-dried Sr-containing mesoporous bioactive glass spheres on glass-ceramic scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration
TL;DR: The meso-macroporous hierarchical constructs produced in this research could be proposed as bioactive and mechanically strong implants for potential applications in bone tissue engineering.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multifunctional copper-containing mesoporous glass nanoparticles as antibacterial and proangiogenic agents for chronic wounds
Thomas E. Paterson,Alessandra Bari,Anthony J. Bullock,Robert D. Turner,Giorgia Montalbano,Sonia Lucia Fiorilli,Chiara Vitale-Brovarone,Sheila MacNeil,Joanna Shepherd +8 more
TL;DR: Biocompatible, multifunctional Cu-containing mesoporous glass nanoparticles were successfully produced and demonstrated to exert both antibacterial and proangiogenic effects.
