Journal ArticleDOI
Transcatheter or Surgical Aortic-Valve Replacement in Intermediate-Risk Patients.
Martin B. Leon,Craig R. Smith,Michael J. Mack,Michael J. Mack,Rajendra Makkar,Lars G. Svensson,Susheel Kodali,Vinod H. Thourani,Murat Tuzcu,D. Craig Miller,Howard C. Herrmann,Darshan Doshi,David J. Cohen,Augusto D. Pichard,Samir R. Kapadia,Todd M. Dewey,Vasilis Babaliaros,Wilson Y. Szeto,Mathew R. Williams,Dean J. Kereiakes,Alan Zajarias,Kevin L. Greason,Brian Whisenant,Robert W. Hodson,Jeffrey W. Moses,Alfredo Trento,David L. Brown,William F. Fearon,Philippe Pibarot,Rebecca T. Hahn,Wael A. Jaber,William N. Anderson,Maria Alu,John G. Webb +33 more
TL;DR: In intermediate-risk patients, TAVR was similar to surgical aortic-valve replacement with respect to the primary end point of death or disabling stroke; surgery resulted in fewer major vascular complications and less paravalvular aorta regurgitation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Percutaneous Repair or Surgery for Mitral Regurgitation
Ted Feldman,Elyse Foster,Donald D. Glower,Saibal Kar,Michael J. Rinaldi,Peter S. Fail,Richard W. Smalling,Robert J. Siegel,Geoffrey A. Rose,Eric Engeron,Catalin Loghin,Alfredo Trento,Eric R. Skipper,Tommy Fudge,George V. Letsou,Joseph M. Massaro,Laura Mauri +16 more
TL;DR: Although percutaneous repair was less effective at reducing mitral regurgitation than conventional surgery, the procedure was associated with superior safety and similar improvements in clinical outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heart-Lung Transplantation: Lessons Learned and Future Hopes
Bartley P. Griffith,Robert L. Hardesty,Alfredo Trento,Irvin L. Paradis,Rene Duquesnoy,Zeevi A,James H. Dauber,J. Stephen Dummer,Mark E. Thompson,Stephen Gryzan,Henry T. Bahnson +10 more
TL;DR: Although mortality and morbidity have been high, the experiences gained through this series will likely result in an improved outlook for future recipients and provide insight into the immunobiology of the transplanted lung.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unexpectedly high incidence of Pneumocystis carinii infection after lung-heart transplantation. Implications for lung defense and allograft survival.
Gryzan S,Irvin L. Paradis,Zeevi A,R. J. Duquesnoy,Dummer Js,Bartley P. Griffith,Robert L. Hardesty,Alfredo Trento,Michael A. Nalesnik,James H. Dauber +9 more
TL;DR: In the absence of prophylaxis, the prevalence of Pneumocystis infestation is very high after lung/heart transplantation, and impaired defense of the transplanted lung does not seem to stem from the inability of activated T-lymphocytes to accumulate in the allograft.
