The efficacy of a simple, electrically small, low-profile, Huygens source antenna that radiates in its broadside direction is demonstrated numerically and experimentally. First, two types of electrically small, near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) antennas are introduced and their individual radiation performance characteristics are discussed. The electric one is based on a modified Egyptian axe dipole NFRP element; the magnetic one is based on a capacitively loaded loop NFRP element. In both cases, the driven element is a simple coax-fed dipole antenna, and there is no ground plane. By organically combining these two elements, Huygens source antennas are obtained. A forward propagating demonstrator version was fabricated and tested. The experimental results are in good agreement with their analytical and simulated values. This low profile, $\sim 0.05\lambda _{0}$ , and electrically small, $ka = 0.645$ , prototype yielded a peak realized gain of 2.03 dBi in the broadside direction with a front-to-back ratio of 16.92 dB. A backward radiating version is also obtained; its simulated current distribution behavior is compared with that of the forward version to illustrate the design principles.

The Internet of Things (IoT) realizes a vision where billions of interconnected devices are deployed just about everywhere, from inside our bodies to the most remote areas of the globe. As the IoT will soon pervade every aspect of our lives and will be accessible from anywhere, addressing critical IoT security threats is now more important than ever. Traditional approaches where security is applied as an afterthought and as a "patch" against known attacks are insufficient. Indeed, next-generation IoT challenges will require a new secure-by-design vision, where threats are addressed proactively and IoT devices learn to dynamically adapt to different threats. To this end, machine learning and software-defined networking will be key to provide both reconfigurability and intelligence to the IoT devices. In this paper, we first provide a taxonomy and survey the state of the art in IoT security research, and offer a roadmap of concrete research challenges related to the application of machine learning and software-defined networking to address existing and next-generation IoT security threats.

Wireless body area network (WBAN) applications have broad utility in monitoring patient health and transmitting the data wirelessly. WBAN can greatly benefit from wearable antennas. Wearable antennas provide comfort and continuity of the monitoring of the patient. Therefore, they must be comfortable, flexible, and operate without excessive degradation near the body. Most wearable antennas use a truncated ground, which increases specific absorption rate (SAR) undesirably. A full ground ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna is proposed and utilized here to attain a broad bandwidth while keeping SAR in the acceptable range based on both 1 g and 10 g standards. It is designed on a denim substrate with a dielectric constant of 1.4 and thickness of 0.7 mm alongside the ShieldIt conductive textile. The antenna is fed using a ground coplanar waveguide (GCPW) through a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) transition. This transition creates a perfect match while reducing SAR. In addition, the proposed antenna has a bandwidth (BW) of 7-28 GHz, maximum directive gain of 10.5 dBi and maximum radiation efficiency of 96%, with small dimensions of 60 × 50 × 0.7 mm3. The good antenna's performance while it is placed on the breast shows that it is a good candidate for both breast cancer imaging and WBAN.

A Miniaturized Multiband Minkowski-Like Pre-Fractal Patch Antenna for GPS and 3g IMT-2000 Handsets

An inductively coupled feed novel technique is proposed to enhance the performance of radio frequency identification tag antennas. The applied feeding concept is comprised of two opposing symmetrical U-shaped structures to feed a radiating body. It is a simple alternative to effectively match the antenna impedance with the chip impedance from the flexible augmentation of equivalent inductance to the radiating body. The proposed feeding method offers better expectation of performance among antenna size, impedance, and gain at the size of 50 × 70 × 1.6 mm3. The peak gain of the proposed tag antenna is 2.5 dBi at its operating frequency, which is higher among conventional tag antennas. Measured results indicated that this tag antenna has a good impedance matching characteristic at 904–937 MHz (power reflection coefficient lower than −3 dB). The comparison between the simulation and measurement results verified the proposed technique's capability to improve overall performance of the tag antennas.

U-Shaped Inductively Coupled Feed Radio Frequency Identification Tag Antennas for Gain Enhancement

This paper proposes miniature radio frequency identiflca- tion (RFID) tag antenna designed to operate on metallic objects, in the UHF frequency range (915MHz), without signiflcantly degrading its read range. The antenna structure is composed of two parts: Part 1 comprises two square patches electrically connected to the ground plane through vias while Part 2 is an unconnected inter-layer con- sisting of two square complementary split ring resonators to allow for capacitive reactance increase. Consequently, its self-resonant frequency will shift towards low frequency, which theoretically allows shrinking RFID tag antenna into smaller size. The antenna was simulated and measured to verify its conjugate matching with chip impedance. The results of experimental tests show that the proposed RFID tag ofiers a maximum read range of 0.82m when placed on a metallic object. The tag's overall size is 36:7£18:1£3:165mm 3 . Both simulation and measurement results are provided to validate the design.

This paper presents the design of miniaturized dipole antenna for passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The proposed tag antenna is designed in such away that covers the Malaysian Ultra High — Frequency (UHF) RFID frequency band. The proposed tag antenna was designed using a double — sided Flame Retardant 4 (FR-4) substrate. The antenna's configuration consists of meander dipole antenna incorporated with metamaterial square split — ring resonators (SRRs) and capacitive tip — loading. This antenna designed focusing on the antenna parameters such as size, gain, radiation pattern, matching impedance and read range. In this work, the results show that the SRR structure is capable to reduce the size of the tag design by increasing the length of the unit cell.
