Environmentally friendly hide unhairing: enzymatic hide processing for the replacement of sodium sulfide and delimig

TL;DR: In this article, the authors described the use of an enzyme preparation produced by a new strain of Bacillus subtilis for hide unhairing aiming at completely replacing the chemical process, which uses toxic sulfides and lime.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hide unhairing and characterization of commercial enzymes used in leather manufacture

TL;DR: In this paper, a study of five commercial enzymes used commercially in tanneries to assess their ability to act upon collagen and keratin and to determine their unhairing was conducted.
Journal ArticleDOI

Production of basic chromium sulfate by using recovered chromium from ashes of thermally treated leather.

TL;DR: The obtained results have shown that this is the first successful attempt to achieve desired base properties of the product and there is an opportunity to utilize the dangerous wastes and reused them in the production scheme by minimizing or annulling the environmental impact and to attend a sustainable process development concept.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optimization of the unhairing leather processing with enzymes and the evaluation of inter-fibrillary proteins removal: an environment-friendly alternative

TL;DR: The isolation of a new proteases-producing strain of Bacillus subtilis, screened from aerobic tannery sludge, and the enzyme application was successful for hide treatment, suggesting that this enzymatic preparation can be used in an environment-friendly leather production to replace the conventional chemical process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optimization of the Biotechnological Process for Hide Unhairing in Substitution of Toxic Sulfides

TL;DR: Crude enzymatic extracts of B. subtilis BLBc 11 cultures were applied for the unhairing process of hides with excellent results, suggesting that this safe enzyme preparation can replace the toxic chemicals commonly used in this process.
