Cellular Underwater Wireless Optical CDMA Network: Potentials and Challenges
Farhad Akhoundi,Mohammad Vahid Jamali,Navid Banihassan,Hamzeh Beyranvand,Amir Minoofar,Jawad A. Salehi +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a cellular underwater wireless optical code division multiple access (UW-OCDMA) network is proposed to provide broadband links for commercial and military applications, where the optical orthogonal codes are employed as signature codes of underwater mobile users.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perspectives on advances in high-capacity, free-space communications using multiplexing of orbital-angular-momentum beams
Alan E. Willner,Zhe Zhao,Cong Liu,Runzhou Zhang,Haoqian Song,Kai Pang,Karapet Manukyan,Hao Song,Xinzhou Su,Guodong Xie,Yongxiong Ren,Yan Yan,Moshe Tur,Andreas F. Molisch,Robert W. Boyd,Huibin Zhou,Nanzhe Hu,Amir Minoofar,Hao Huang +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the use of multiplexing and the simultaneous transmission of multiple OAM beams for enhancing the capacity of communication systems and highlight the key advances and technical challenges in the areas of free-space and fiber communication links, mitigation of modal coupling and channel crosstalk effects, classical and quantum systems, and optical and radio frequency beam multiplexings.
Journal ArticleDOI
Turbulence-resilient pilot-assisted self-coherent free-space optical communications using automatic optoelectronic mixing of many modes
Runzhou Zhang,Nanzhe Hu,Huibin Zhou,Kaiheng Zou,Xinzhou Su,Yiyu Zhou,Haoqian Song,Kai Pang,Hao Song,Amir Minoofar,Zhe Zhao,Cong Liu,Karapet Manukyan,Ahmed Almaiman,Ahmed Almaiman,Brittany Lynn,Robert W. Boyd,Robert W. Boyd,Moshe Tur,Alan E. Willner +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, a pilot-assisted self-coherent detection approach is proposed to overcome the effect of atmospheric turbulence in free-space optical communications, where the data is recovered by mixing a Gaussian local oscillator with a received Gaussian data beam.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Underwater positioning system based on cellular underwater wireless optical CDMA networks
TL;DR: A positioning system for underwater users is proposed based on the underwater wireless optical CDMA network and two different localization schemes namely Received Signal Strength (RSS) and Time of Arrival (TOA) are discussed and their performances in the presence of optical turbulence are explored.
