Journal ArticleDOI
TiO2 nanotubes: Self-organized electrochemical formation, properties and applications
Jan M. Macak,Hiroaki Tsuchiya,Andrei Ghicov,Kouji Yasuda,Robert Hahn,Sebastian Bauer,Patrik Schmuki +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, an overview and review on self-organized TiO2 nanotube layers and other transition metal oxide tubular structures grown by controlled anodic oxidation of a metal substrate is given.
Journal ArticleDOI
Self-ordering electrochemistry: a review on growth and functionality of TiO2nanotubes and other self-aligned MOx structures
Andrei Ghicov,Patrik Schmuki +1 more
TL;DR: The present review addresses the formation, properties and applications not only of TiO(2) nanotubes but also of related transition metal oxides.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dye-sensitized solar cells based on oriented TiO2 nanotube arrays: transport, trapping, and transfer of electrons.
TL;DR: The study revealed a substantial discrepancy between the shapes of the electron trap distributions measured experimentally using charge extraction techniques and those inferred indirectly from transient current and voltage measurements, which is resolved by introduction of a numerical factor to account for non-ideal thermodynamic behavior of free electrons in the nanostructured titania.
Journal ArticleDOI
Self-organized, free-standing TiO2 nanotube membrane for flow-through photocatalytic applications.
TL;DR: A simple and robust fabrication process of a dense and free-standing membrane consisting of vertically oriented, both-side-open TiO2 nanotubes that allows direct, size-selective, flow-through photocatalytic reactions with a very high efficiency is shown.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ion Implantation and Annealing for an Efficient N-Doping of TiO2 Nanotubes
Andrei Ghicov,Jan M. Macak,Hiroaki Tsuchiya,Julia Kunze,Volker Haeublein,Lothar Frey,Patrik Schmuki +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, self-organized anodic titania nanotube layers were doped with nitrogen successfully using ion implantation, resulting in a N-doped crystalline anatase nanotubite structure with strongly enhanced photocurrent response in both the UV and the visible range.
