Although homogeneous gold catalysis was known previously, an exponential growth was only induced 12 years ago. The key findings which induce that rise of the field are discussed. This includes early reactions of allenes and furanynes and intermediates of these conversions as well as hydroarylation reactions. Other substrate types addressed are alkynyl epoxides and N-propargyl carboxamides. Important vinylgold intermediates, the transmetalation from gold to other transition metals, the development of new ligands for gold catalysis, and significant contributions from computational chemistry are other crucial points for the field highlighted here.

Gold-Catalyzed Organic Reactions

This critical review presents a comprehensive study of transition-metal carboxylate clusters which may serve as secondary building units (SBUs) towards construction and synthesis of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). We describe the geometries of 131 SBUs, their connectivity and composition. This contribution presents a comprehensive list of the wide variety of transition-metal carboxylate clusters which may serve as secondary building units (SBUs) in the construction and synthesis of metal–organic frameworks. The SBUs discussed here were obtained from a search of molecules and extended structures archived in the Cambridge Structure Database (CSD, version 5.28, January 2007) which included only crystals containing metal carboxylate linkages (241 references).

Toward the Synthesis of Heteroleptic Zinc ROP Initiators Based on Pyridine-Containing Monoalcohols by Tuning Ligand Substituents

Four 2-arylbenzimidazoles (aryl = 4-Br-phenyl (1), 3-Br-phenyl (2), 4-I-phenyl (3), 3-I-phenyl (4)) were synthesized and characterized by 1H, 13C{1H} NMR, UV–Vis spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both pairs of benzimidazoles bearing the halogen atom at the same position form isostructural crystals, in which para-substituted compounds 1 and 3 are assembled by weak C–H···π and π···π interactions while their meta-isomers 2 and 4 are linked via intermolecular halogen···nitrogen and C–H···π contacts.

Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Halogen-Substituted 2-Aryl-N-phenylbenzimidazoles

A highly efficient one-step approach to the macromonomer synthesis using modified aluminum complexes as catalysts of ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone and D,L-lactide was developed. The syntheses, structures, and catalytic activities of a wide range of aluminum salen complexes, 3a-c, functionalized with unsaturated alcohol (HO(CH2)4OCH=CH2) are reported. X-Ray diffraction studies revealed a tetragonal pyramidal structure for 3c. Among the complexes 3a-c, the highest activity in bulk ROP of ε-caprolactone and D,L-lactide was displayed by 3b, affording polyesters with controlled molecular weights at low monomer to initiator ratios (Mn up to 15,000 g mol−1), relatively high polydispersities (Ð~1.8) and high number-average functionalities (Fn up to 85%).

Reactions of Si- and Ge-substituted alkynes with KICl2 were investigated. (1-Germatranyl)-phenylacetylenes and (triphenylsilyl)phenylacetylene gave Z-iodochloroalkenes with chlorine and phenyl groups attached to the same carbon atom.
