Journal ArticleDOI

The Growth of Slip Surfaces in the Progressive Failure of Over-Consolidated Clay

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used fracture mechanics to derive conditions for the propagation of a concentrated shear band in heavily overconsolidated clays and found that the mean resolved shear stress on that surface is markedly less than the peak shear strength.
Journal ArticleDOI

Undrained plane-strain expansion of a cylindrical cavity in clay: a simple interpretation of the pressuremeter test

Andrew Palmer
- 01 Sep 1972 -
TL;DR: In this paper, a study was made of the problem of interpreting the results of Menard pressuremeter tests on soil in situ, where a cylindrical cavity is expanded by internal pressure, and the relation between applied pressure and cavity volume change is measured.
Journal ArticleDOI

Buckle propagation in submarine pipelines

TL;DR: In this paper, a tube of toothpaste is placed between the thumb and forefinger of a finger, and the fingers along the tube bend from a circular into a dumb-bell cross section.
Journal ArticleDOI

Morphology of Methane Hydrate Formation in Porous Media

TL;DR: In this paper, the formation and dissociation of methane hydrate in a specially designed crystallizer for mophology observation was observed in different porous media, such as silica sand and activated carbon.
