Journal ArticleDOI
Conservation of farmland birds faces different challenges in Western and Central-Eastern Europe
Piotr Tryjanowski,Tibor Hartel,András Báldi,Paweł Szymański,Marcin Tobolka,Irina Herzon,Artur Goławski,Martin Konvicka,Martin Hromada,Leszek Jerzak,Krzysztof Kujawa,Magdalena Lenda,Grzegorz Orłowski,Marek Panek,Piotr Skórka,Tim H. Sparks,Stanisław Tworek,Andrzej Wuczyński,Michał Żmihorski +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors highlight some local and regional differences in biodiversity patterns within EU farmland by comparing intensive agricultural landscapes with more extensive ones, and use farmland birds to provide examples of the differences in species dynamics and species-habitat interactions between the two regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Urban and rural habitats differ in number and type of bird feeders and in bird species consuming supplementary food
Piotr Tryjanowski,Piotr Skórka,Tim H. Sparks,Waldemar Biaduń,Tomasz Brauze,Tomasz Hetmański,Rafał Martyka,Piotr Indykiewicz,Łukasz Myczko,Przemysław Kunysz,Piotr Kawa,Stanisław Czyż,Paweł Czechowski,Michał Polakowski,Piotr Zduniak,Leszek Jerzak,Tomasz Janiszewski,Artur Goławski,Leszek Duduś,Jacek J. Nowakowski,Andrzej Wuczyński,Dariusz Wysocki +21 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that different types of bird feeder support only those species specialized for that particular food type and this relationship is similar in urban and rural areas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Winter Bird Assemblages in Rural and Urban Environments: A National Survey
Piotr Tryjanowski,Tim H. Sparks,Waldemar Biaduń,Tomasz Brauze,Tomasz Hetmański,Rafał Martyka,Piotr Skórka,Piotr Indykiewicz,Łukasz Myczko,Przemysław Kunysz,Piotr Kawa,Stanisław Czyż,Paweł Czechowski,Michał Polakowski,Piotr Zduniak,Leszek Jerzak,Tomasz Janiszewski,Artur Goławski,Leszek Duduś,Jacek J. Nowakowski,Andrzej Wuczyński,Dariusz Wysocki +21 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that differences between rural and urban areas in terms of winter conditions and the availability of resources are reflected in different bird communities in the two environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Species richness and composition of bird communities in various field margins of Poland
TL;DR: In this paper, a study was conducted to determine the occurrence of bird species in relation to 70 field margins of an agricultural landscape in SW Poland, and three types of margins were divided according to the volume of tall vegetation, i.e. herbaceous, shrubby, and tree-lined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Applying red lists to the evaluation of agricultural habitat: regular occurrence of threatened birds, vascular plants, and bryophytes in field margins of Poland
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that field margins in Central European arable farmland regularly support rare and threatened species, and therefore deserve greater conservation efforts.
