Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of Clarithromycin Susceptibility in Strains Belonging to the Mycobacterium abscessus Group by erm(41) and rrl Sequencing

TL;DR: Clarithromycin-resistant strains, including the six rrl mutants, were more often isolated in cystic fibrosis patients, but this was not significantly associated with a previous treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multicenter study of prevalence of nontuberculous mycobacteria in patients with cystic fibrosis in france.

TL;DR: A multicenter prevalence study of nontuberculous mycobacteria involving 1,582 patients with cystic fibrosis in France found the most common NTM species and the only ones associated with fulfillment of the American Thoracic Society bacteriological criteria for NTM lung disease were Mycobacterium abscessus complex andMAC.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification and characterization of the genetic changes responsible for the characteristic smooth-to-rough morphotype alterations of clinically persistent Mycobacterium abscessus.

TL;DR: To better understand the molecular mechanisms behind the S/R alterations, S and R variants of three isogenic M. abscessus pairs are analysed using an unbiased approach involving genome and transcriptome analyses, transcriptional fusions and integrating constructs to identify clearly defined genetic lesions responsible for the loss of GPL‐production or transport.
Journal ArticleDOI

Acute respiratory failure involving an R variant of Mycobacterium abscessus

TL;DR: The case of a cystic fibrosis patient colonized with a smooth-morphotype form of Mycobacterium abscessus who developed acute respiratory failure with the emergence of an isogenic rough (R) variant while he was recovering from peritonitis-induced shock is reported.
