Empirical observations of the spawning migration of European eels: The long and dangerous road to the Sargasso Sea
David Righton,Håkan Westerberg,Eric Feunteun,Finn Økland,Patrick G. Gargan,Elsa Amilhat,Julian D. Metcalfe,Javier Lobón-Cerviá,Niklas Sjöberg,Janek Simon,Anthony Acou,Marisa Vedor,Alan Walker,Thomas Trancart,Uwe Brämick,Kim Aarestrup +15 more
TL;DR: The timing of autumn escapement and the rate of migration are inconsistent with the century-long held assumption that eels spawn as a single reproductive cohort in the springtime following their escapements, and it is suggested that European eels adopt a mixed migratory strategy.
Book ChapterDOI
A Review of Upstream Migration and Movements in Inland Waters by Anguillid Eels: Toward a General Theory
Eric Feunteun,Pascal Laffaille,Tony Robinet,Cédric Briand,Aurore Baisez,Jean-Michel Olivier,Anthony Acou +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify four distinct movement behaviors of anguillid eels: "founders" that colonize rivers until they settle in the first available suitable habitat they encounter, "pioneers" which migrate upstream to the upper boundaries of the system, "home range dwellers" and "nomads" which are erratic eels that perform a general upstream shift as they search for suitable areas to forage or to settle.
Journal ArticleDOI
European eel (Anguilla anguilla): prediction of spawner escapement from continental population parameters
TL;DR: In this paper, the assessment of silver European eel escapement based on a "sedentary" population fraction analysis in a 60-km2 watershed of northern Brittany (France) is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial organisation of European eel (Anguilla anguilla L.) in a small catchment
Pascal Laffaille,Eric Feunteun,Aurore Baisez,Tony Robinet,Anthony Acou,Antoine Legault,Sovan Lek +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used artificial neural network (ANN) techniques and ecological profiles to model the distribution of European eels (Anguilla anguilla L) in the Fremur basin (North-West France).
Journal ArticleDOI
Migration pattern of silver eel (Anguilla anguilla, L.) in an obstructed river system
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the downstream migration of European silver eels in the River Fremur to determine the potential effects of the numerous migration barriers that exist on waterways in western France.
