Journal ArticleDOI
Risk Factors, Outcome, and Treatment in Subtypes of Ischemic Stroke The German Stroke Data Bank
Armin J. Grau,Christian Weimar,Florian Buggle,Alexander Heinrich,Michael Goertler,Stefan Neumaier,Joerg Glahn,Tobias Brandt,Werner Hacke,Hans-Christoph Diener +9 more
TL;DR: The results foster the concept of ischemic stroke as a polyetiologic disease with marked differences between subtypes regarding risk factors and outcome, and studies involving risk factors of isChemic stroke should differentiate between etiologic stroke subtypes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anticoagulant reversal, blood pressure levels, and anticoagulant resumption in patients with anticoagulation-related intracerebral hemorrhage.
Joji B. Kuramatsu,Stefan T. Gerner,Peter D. Schellinger,Jörg Glahn,Matthias Endres,Jan Sobesky,Julia Flechsenhar,Hermann Neugebauer,Hermann Neugebauer,Eric Jüttler,Eric Jüttler,Armin J. Grau,Frederick Palm,Joachim Röther,Peter Michels,Gerhard F. Hamann,Joachim Hüwel,Georg Hagemann,Beatrice Barber,Christoph Terborg,Frank Trostdorf,Hansjörg Bäzner,Aletta Roth,Johannes C. Wöhrle,Moritz Keller,Michael P. Schwarz,Gernot Reimann,Jens Volkmann,Wolfgang Müllges,Peter Kraft,Joseph Classen,Carsten Hobohm,Markus Horn,Angelika Milewski,Heinz Reichmann,Hauke Schneider,Eik Schimmel,Gereon R. Fink,Christian Dohmen,Henning Stetefeld,Otto W. Witte,Albrecht Günther,Tobias Neumann-Haefelin,Andras E. Racs,Martin Nueckel,Frank Erbguth,Stephan P. Kloska,Arnd Dörfler,Martin Köhrmann,Stefan Schwab,Hagen B. Huttner +50 more
TL;DR: Among patients with OAC-associated ICH, reversal of anticoagulation reversal and blood pressure (BP) with hematoma enlargement and resumption of OAC therapy was associated with lower risk of ischemic events, and these findings require replication and assessment in prospective studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Periodontal Disease as a Risk Factor for Ischemic Stroke
Armin J. Grau,Heiko Becher,Christoph M. Ziegler,Christoph Lichy,Florian Buggle,Claudia Kaiser,Rainer Lutz,Stefan Bültmann,Michael R. Preusch,Christof E. Dörfer +9 more
TL;DR: periodontitis increased the risk of cerebral ischemia caused by large-artery atherosclerosis, cardioembolism, and cryptogenic etiology, whereas caries was not.
Journal ArticleDOI
Leukocyte Count as an Independent Predictor of Recurrent Ischemic Events
Armin J. Grau,Alexander Boddy,Deborah Dukovic,Florian Buggle,Christoph Lichy,Tobias Brandt,Werner Hacke +6 more
TL;DR: Leukocyte counts and mainly neutrophil counts are independently associated with ischemic events in these high-risk populations, and an increase of leukocytes over baseline levels heralds a period of increased risk lasting about one week.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pathogenesis of cervical artery dissections Association with connective tissue abnormalities
Tobias Brandt,E. Orberk,Ruthild G. Weber,I. Werner,Otto Busse,B. T. Muller,F. Wigger,Armin J. Grau,Caspar Grond-Ginsbach,Ingrid Hausser +9 more
TL;DR: The dermal connective tissue abnormalities detected can serve as a phenotypic marker for further genetic studies in patients with CAD and large families to possibly identify the underlying basic molecular defect(s).
