Journal ArticleDOI

Methane cold seeps as biological oases in the high‐Arctic deep sea

TL;DR: Faunal data, visual observations, and measurements of sediment characteristics indicate that methane is a key environmental driver of the biological system at VR and it is suggested that chemoautotrophic production enhances infaunal diversity, abundance, and biomass at the seep while MDAC create a heterogeneous deep-sea habitat leading to aggregation of heterotrophic, conventional megafauna.
Journal ArticleDOI

Geophysical and geochemical controls on the megafaunal community of a high Arctic cold seep

TL;DR: In this article, cold-seep megafaunal communities around gas hydrate mounds (pingos) in the western Barents Sea were investigated with high-resolution, geographically referenced snapshots acquired with an ROV and a towed camera.
Journal ArticleDOI

Community succession in hydrothermal vent habitats of the Eastern Lau Spreading Center and Valu Fa Ridge, Tonga

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used high-resolution imagery and in situ physico-chemical data collected over 4 yr and analyzed within a Geographic Information System (GIS) to determine the formation and evolution of the Lau Basin hydrothermal vent communities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Atypical biological features of a new cold seep site on the Lofoten-Vesterålen continental margin (northern Norway).

TL;DR: A newly discovered cold seep from the Lofoten-Vesterålen margin (Norwegian Sea) is dominated by the chemosymbiotrophic siboglinid Oligobrachia haakonmosbiensis, but additionally displays uncharacteristic features.
