Journal ArticleDOI

A note on cycle grammars

TL;DR: Grammars whose languages consist of cycles (“necklaces”) rather than strings are considered, and automata on cyclic tapes are also discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Arc colorings, partial path groups, and parallel graph contractions

TL;DR: An algebraic structure on the paths in a graph based on a coloring of the arcs provides a framework for defining parallel contraction operations on a graph, in which many pairs of nodes are simultaneously collapsed into single nodes, but the degree of the graph does not increase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Linear feature compatibility for pattern-matching relaxation

TL;DR: A compatibility function that relies on relative orientation information, which is translation and rotation invariant and which can be more reliably extracted from noisy images than can positional information is defined.
Journal ArticleDOI

A note on perimeter and diameter in digital pictures

TL;DR: It is shown that the “intrinsic diameter” of a connected digital object C—i.e., the maximum distance in C between any two points of C—never exceeds half of C's total perimeter.
ReportDOI

Use of Quadtrees for Image Segmentation

TL;DR: An approach to image segmentation based on using a quadtree approximation image to identify regions in the image is examined, finding that by traversal of the tree it is possible to find the approximate location of the regions within an image.
