Journal ArticleDOI

Radical scavenging activities of Rio Red grapefruits and Sour orange fruit extracts in different in vitro model systems.

TL;DR: The data obtained using in vitro models clearly establish the antioxidant potential of citrus fruit extracts, however, comprehensive studies need to be conducted to ascertain the in vivo bioavailability, safety and efficacy of such extracts in experimental animals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Grapefruit juice and its furocoumarins inhibits autoinducer signaling and biofilm formation in bacteria.

TL;DR: Grapefruit juice and furocoumarins could serve as a source to develop bacterial intervention strategies targeting microbial cell signaling processes, and inhibit biofilm formation by Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella typhimurium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Furocoumarins from grapefruit juice and their effect on human CYP 3A4 and CYP 1B1 isoenzymes.

TL;DR: An efficient technique has been developed for isolation and purification of three furocoumarins that showed a substantial inhibitory effect on CYP 3A4 below 10 microM and inhibitory effects on CYB 1B1 exhibited a greater variation due to the specificity of substrates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidant capacity of pummelo and navel oranges: Extraction efficiency of solvents in sequence

TL;DR: In this paper, the antioxidant capacity of pummelo and navel oranges was measured by five widely used antioxidant methods, including α,α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical assay and ORAC methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Potent Inhibition of Human Cytochrome P450 3A4, 2D6, and 2C9 Isoenzymes by Grapefruit Juice and Its Furocoumarins

TL;DR: Grapefruit and pummelo juices were found to be potent inhibitors of cytochrome CYP3A4 and CYP2C9 isoenzymes at 25% concentration, while CyP2D6 is inhibited significantly low at all the tested concentration of juices.
