Journal ArticleDOI
NF-κB is essential for epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastasis in a model of breast cancer progression
M. Huber,Ninel Azoitei,Bernd Baumann,Stefan Grünert,Andreas Sommer,Hubert Pehamberger,Norbert Kraut,Hartmut Beug,Thomas Wirth +8 more
TL;DR: Evidence of an essential role for NF-κB during distinct steps of breast cancer progression is provided and the cooperation of Ras- and TGF-β–dependent signaling pathways in late-stage tumorigenesis depends critically on NF-σB activity is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
IKK mediates ischemia-induced neuronal death.
Oliver Herrmann,Bernd Baumann,Rossana De Lorenzi,Sajjad Muhammad,Wen Zhang,Wen Zhang,Jens Kleesiek,Max Malfertheiner,Martin Köhrmann,Ioana Potrovita,Ira Maegele,Cordian Beyer,James R. Burke,Mazahir T. Hasan,Hermann Bujard,Thomas Wirth,Manolis Pasparakis,Markus Schwaninger +17 more
TL;DR: It is shown that IKK is activated in a mouse model of stroke, indicating a key function of IKK in ischemic brain damage and suggesting a potential role for IKK inhibitors in stroke therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of Nuclear Factor κB Activation Attenuates Apoptosis Resistance in Lymphoid Cells
Irmela Jeremias,Christian Kupatt,Bernd Baumann,Ingrid Herr,Thomas Wirth,Klaus-Michael Debatin +5 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated here that TRAIL (TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand), a recently identified DIL, also activates NFkappaB in lymphoid cell lines in a kinetic similar to TNFalpha, and inhibition of NFkappB activation may provide a molecular approach to increase apoptosis sensitivity in anticancer treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sulforaphane targets pancreatic tumour-initiating cells by NF-κB-induced antiapoptotic signalling
Georgios Kallifatidis,Vanessa Rausch,Bernd Baumann,Anja Apel,Benjamin M. Beckermann,Ariane Groth,Jürgen Mattern,Zhanqing Li,Armin Kolb,Gerhard Moldenhauer,Peter Altevogt,Thomas Wirth,Jens Werner,Peter Schemmer,Markus W. Büchler,Alexei V. Salnikov,Ingrid Herr +16 more
TL;DR: The combination of sulforaphane with TRAIL is suggested as a promising strategy for targeting of pancreatic TICs in analysis of resistance mechanisms and for definition of sensitising agents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synergistic Activity of Sorafenib and Sulforaphane Abolishes Pancreatic Cancer Stem Cell Characteristics
Vanessa Rausch,Li Liu,Georgios Kallifatidis,Bernd Baumann,Jürgen Mattern,Jury Gladkich,Thomas Wirth,Peter Schemmer,Markus W. Büchler,Margot Zöller,Alexei V. Salnikov,Alexei V. Salnikov,Ingrid Herr +12 more
TL;DR: Targeting of pancreatic cancer stem cells (CSC) by Sorafenib and the development of a strategy to enhance this effect are reported and data suggest that SF may be suited to increase targeting of CSCs by SO.
