Raymond Vanholder,Rita De Smet,Griet Glorieux,Àngel Argilés,Ulrich Baurmeister,Philippe Brunet,William R. Clark,Gerald Cohen,Peter Paul De Deyn,Reinhold Deppisch,Béatrice Descamps-Latscha,Thomas Henle,Achim Jörres,Horst Dieter Lemke,Ziad A. Massy,Jutta Passlick-Deetjen,Mariano Rodriguez,Bernd Stegmayr,Peter Stenvinkel,Ciro Tetta,Christoph Wanner,Walter Zidek +21 more
TL;DR: Concentrations of retention solutes in uremia vary over a broad range, from nanograms per liter to grams per liter, and a substantial number of molecules are protein bound and/or middle molecules, and many of these exert toxicity and are characterized by a high range of toxic over normal concentration (CU/CN ratio).
Journal ArticleDOI
Peritoneal Catheters and Exit-Site Practices toward Optimum Peritoneal Access: 1998 Update: (Official Report from the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis)
Ram Gokal,Steven R. Alexander,Stephen R. Ash,Tzen W. Chen,Anders Danielson,Cliff Holmes,Preben Joffe,Jack W. Moncrief,Kirt W. Nichols,Beth Piraino,Barbara F. Prowant,Alain Slingeneyer,Bernd Stegmayr,Zbylut J. Twardowski,Stephen I. Vas +14 more
TL;DR: The guidelines provided in this publication represent a consensus view based on studies from the literature and opinions of experts in this field and it is hoped that implementation of these guidelines will improve catheter-related outcomes and, therefore, enhance patient care.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diabetes as a risk factor for stroke. A population perspective.
Bernd Stegmayr,Kjell Asplund +1 more
TL;DR: Hypertension, atrial fibrillation, heart failure or myocardial infarction were all significantly more common in diabetic than in non-diabetic stroke patients, and the overall mortality from stroke in the diabetic population (first and recurrent) was 4.4-times higher in male patients and 5.1- times higher in the female patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic criteria and quality control of the registration of stroke events in the MONICA project.
TL;DR: The number of fatal events in the Northern Sweden MONICA area increased by 195% and non-fatal events by 149%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Promotive effect on human sperm progressive motility by prostasomes.
Bernd Stegmayr,Gunnar Ronquist +1 more
TL;DR: Investigation of seminal plasma constituents on Sephadex G200 gel columns found that procedures aiming at a change of membrane integrity of the prostasomes resulted in diminished effects on sperm progressive motility, explained by a probable dissipation of the electrochemical gradient of calcium ions.
