Journal ArticleDOI
Genotoxicity evaluation of kaurenoic acid, a bioactive diterpenoid present in Copaiba oil.
Bruno C. Cavalcanti,Letícia V. Costa-Lotufo,Manoel Odorico de Moraes,Rommel Rodríguez Burbano,E.R. Silveira,K.M.A. Cunha,Vietla Satyanarayana Rao,Dinara Jaqueline Moura,Renato Moreira Rosa,João Antonio Pêgas Henriques,Cláudia Pessoa +10 more
TL;DR: Support is provided to the view that the diterpene kaurenoic acid induces genotoxicity against Chinese hamster lung fibroblast cells in vitro, using the Comet and the micronucleus assays.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synergistic Effect of the Flavonoid Catechin, Quercetin, or Epigallocatechin Gallate with Fluconazole Induces Apoptosis in Candida tropicalis Resistant to Fluconazole
Cecília Rocha da Silva,João Batista de Andrade Neto,Rosana de Sousa Campos,Narjara Silvestre Figueiredo,Letícia Serpa Sampaio,Hemerson Iury Ferreira Magalhães,Hemerson Iury Ferreira Magalhães,Bruno C. Cavalcanti,Danielle Macedo Gaspar,Geanne Matos de Andrade,Iri Sandro Pampolha Lima,Glauce Socorro de Barros Viana,Manoel Odorico de Moraes,Marina Duarte Pinto Lobo,Thalles B. Grangeiro,Hélio Vitoriano Nobre Júnior +15 more
TL;DR: Flavonoids show activity against strains of C. tropicalis resistant to fluconazole, promoting apoptosis by exposure of phosphatidylserine in the plasma membrane and morphological changes, mitochondrial depolarization, intracellular accumulation of ROS, condensation, and DNA fragmentation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genotoxic effects of aluminum chloride in cultured human lymphocytes treated in different phases of cell cycle
P.D.L. Lima,D.S. Leite,Marne Carvalho de Vasconcellos,Bruno C. Cavalcanti,Raquel Alves dos Santos,Letícia V. Costa-Lotufo,Cláudia Pessoa,Manoel Odorico de Moraes,Rommel Rodríguez Burbano +8 more
TL;DR: The presence of genotoxicity and polyploidy on interphase and mitosis, respectively, suggests that aluminum chloride is clastogenic and indirectly affects the construction of mitotic fuse in all tested concentrations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Virtual screening based on molecular docking of possible inhibitors of Covid-19 main protease.
Emanuelle Machado Marinho,João Batista de Andrade Neto,Jacilene Silva,Cecília Rocha da Silva,Bruno C. Cavalcanti,Emmanuel Silva Marinho,Hélio Vitoriano Nobre Júnior +6 more
TL;DR: Evaluated the molecular interactions of drugs with therapeutic indications for treatment of COVID-19 and drugs with similar structures in docking models from the SARS-CoV-2 main protease (M-pro) protein showed that all inhibitors bound to the same enzyme site.
Journal ArticleDOI
Berberine Antifungal Activity in Fluconazole-Resistant Pathogenic Yeasts: Action Mechanism Evaluated by Flow Cytometry and Biofilm Growth Inhibition in Candida spp.
Anderson Ramos da Silva,João Batista de Andrade Neto,Cecília Rocha da Silva,Rosana de Sousa Campos,Rose Anny Costa Silva,Daniel Domingues Freitas,Francisca Bruna Stefany Aires do Nascimento,Larissa Nara Dantas de Andrade,Letícia Serpa Sampaio,Thalles B. Grangeiro,Hemerson Iury Ferreira Magalhães,Bruno C. Cavalcanti,Manoel Odorico de Moraes,Hélio Vitoriano Nobre Júnior +13 more
TL;DR: Cytometric analysis showed that treatment with berberine caused alterations to the integrity of the plasma and mitochondrial membranes and DNA damage, which led to cell death, probably by apoptosis in biofilm-forming isolates after treatment.
