Journal ArticleDOI

From the discovery of the Malta fever's agent to the discovery of a marine mammal reservoir, brucellosis has continuously been a re-emerging zoonosis

TL;DR: The development of a human vaccine for brucellosis is defined, besides the implementation of control and eradication programs in animals, as a high priority and the pathogenicity for humans of the different Brucella species found in cetaceans and pinnipeds still has to be clearly established.
Journal ArticleDOI

Classification of Brucella spp. isolated from marine mammals by DNA polymorphism at the omp2 locus

TL;DR: Analysis of DNA polymorphism at the omp2 locus of 33 marine mammal Brucella strains isolated from seals, dolphins, porpoises and an otter suggests that brucellae isolated from such diverse marine mammal species as seals and dolphins could actually comprise more than one species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Efficacy of several serological tests and antigens for diagnosis of bovine brucellosis in the presence of false-positive serological results due to Yersinia enterocolitica O:9.

TL;DR: Although no serological test and antigen combination fully resolved the diagnosis of bovine brucellosis in the presence of FPSR, some are simple and practical alternatives to the brucellin skin test currently recommended for differential diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Efficacy of different Rose Bengal and complement fixation antigens for the diagnosis of Brucella melitensis infection in sheep and goats.

TL;DR: Fifteen different Rose Bengal antigens showed large differences with respect to pH, cell concentration and agglutination with the international standard anti-Brucella abortus serum, demonstrating the lack of international standardisation.
