Galleria mellonella is an effective model to study Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae infection.
Monalessa Fábia Pereira,Ciro César Rossi,Marisa Vieira de Queiroz,Gustavo Ferreira Martins,C. Isaac,C. Isaac,Janine T. Bossé,Yanwen Li,Brendan W. Wren,Vanessa S. Terra,Jon Cuccui,Paul R. Langford,Denise Mara Soares Bazzolli +12 more
TL;DR: The wax moth Galleria mellonella is a suitable inexpensive alternative infection model that can be used to study the virulence of A. pleuropneumoniae, as well as assess the effectiveness of antimicrobial agents against this pathogen.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular identification of different trypanosome species and subspecies in tsetse flies of northern Nigeria
C. Isaac,C. Isaac,Marc Ciosi,Marc Ciosi,Alana Hamilton,Kathleen Maria Scullion,Peter Dede,I. B. Igbinosa,O. P. G. Nmorsi,Daniel K. Masiga,Daniel K. Masiga,C. Michael R. Turner +11 more
TL;DR: The results show that T. vivax are the main species of parasite potentially causing AAT in the two study sites and that Yankari National Park is a potential reservoir of trypanosomes both in terms of parasite abundance and species diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Animal African Trypanosomiasis in Nigeria: A long way from elimination/eradication.
TL;DR: The data presented in this report demonstrates that Nigeria is highly endemic of AAT and that it is yet to comprehensively approach the process of eradication as it is at the infancy stage of data gathering and processing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative analysis of pathogenic organisms in cockroaches from different community settings in Edo State, Nigeria.
TL;DR: Investigations revealed the preponderance of Ascaris lumbricoides in Benin and Emuhi, while Trichuris trichura was the most predominant in Ekpoma, and the prevalence and burden of infection in cockroaches is likely to be a reflection of the sanitary conditions of these areas.
Journal ArticleDOI
