The International Stroke Trial (IST): A randomised trial of aspirin, subcutaneous heparin, both, or neither among 19 435 patients with acute ischaemic stroke
Peter Sandercock,Rory Collins,Carl Counsell,Barbara Farrell,Richard Peto,Jim Slattery,Charles Warlow,S Anderson,A Bowie,J Boyle,A Brownlie,D Charlton,Gina Cranswick,L Day,Martin Dennis,Paul Dorman,H Fraser,M Kaye,Richard I. Lindley,M Liu,C MacDonald,I McCrindle,G Middleton,D. Perry,V Scoltock,Brenda Smith,Hugh R. Taylor,Fiona Waddell,Joanna Wardlaw,J Crowther,J Heineman,S Knight,Andrew Radley,R Ripley,S Richards,S Wilberforce,Zhengming Chen,J vanGijn,Michael R. Harrison,Lars Wilhelmsen +39 more
TL;DR: Aspirinallocated patients had significantly fewer recurrent ischaemic strokes within 14 days with no significant excess of haemorrhagic strokes, so the reduction in death or non-fatal recurrent stroke with aspirin was significant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Movement Disorder Society Task Force report on the Hoehn and Yahr staging scale: status and recommendations.
Christopher G. Goetz,Werner Poewe,Olivier Rascol,Cristina Sampaio,Glenn T. Stebbins,Carl Counsell,Nir Giladi,Robert G. Holloway,Charity G. Moore,Gregor K. Wenning,Melvin D. Yahr,Lisa Seidl +11 more
TL;DR: The Movement Disorder Society Task Force for Rating Scales for Parkinson's disease (PD) prepared a critique of the Hoehn and Yahr scale, which recommends that it be used in its original form for demographic presentation of patient groups and in research settings, the HY scale is useful primarily for defining inclusion/exclusion criteria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Systematic review of incidence studies of Parkinson's disease
TL;DR: The difficulties in performing good quality incidence studies of Parkinson's disease are highlighted, and a set of minimal scientific criteria has been devised to improve the quality and consistency of future studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Indications for early aspirin use in acute ischemic stroke : A combined analysis of 40 000 randomized patients from the chinese acute stroke trial and the international stroke trial. On behalf of the CAST and IST collaborative groups.
Zhengming Chen,Peter Sandercock,Hongchao Pan,Carl Counsell,Rory Collins,Lisheng Liu,JingXian Xie,Charles Warlow,Richard Peto +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a prospectively planned meta-analysis is presented of the data from 40 000 individual patients from both trials on events that occurred in the hospital during the scheduled treatment period (4 weeks in CAST, 2 weeks in IST).
Journal ArticleDOI
Formulating Questions and Locating Primary Studies for Inclusion in Systematic Reviews
TL;DR: A good systematic review is based on a well-formulated, answerable question, which guides the review by defining which studies will be included, what the search strategy to identify the relevant primary studies should be, and which data need to be extracted from each study.
