Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and structural study of 2-isopropenyl-3-methylphenol, carquejiphenol, a carquejol derivative with potential medicinal use

TL;DR: In this article, 2-isopropenyl-3-methylphenol (CARP), a minor component of carqueja essential oil, was synthesized starting from carquejol and characterized by using Fourier Transform infrared (FT-IR) and Raman spectroscopies, Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-visible) spectroscopy, Electron Impact Mass spectrometry (EI-MS), Hydrogen and Carbon Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H- and 13C-NMR) and 2D 1H 1H g
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemistry, Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Potentials of White Pepper (Piper nigrum L.) Essential Oil and Oleoresins

TL;DR: The antioxidant and antimicrobial potentials of volatile oil and oleoresins of white pepper (Piper nigrum L.) was investigated in this paper, where the white pepper essential oil has shown strong activity for the inhibition of primary and secondary oxidation products in mustard oil added at 0.02% concentration which was evaluated using peroxide value and thiobarbituric acid value.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phenylpropanoids from maize pericarp: resistance factors to kernel infection and fumonisin accumulation by Fusarium verticillioides

TL;DR: The findings suggest that high level of phenylpropanoids in the kernel pericarp is a trait associated to less disease severity and fumonisin accumulation caused by F. verticillioides.
Journal ArticleDOI

Macamides from wild ‘Maca’, Lepidium meyenii Walpers (Brassicaceae)

TL;DR: The non-polar extract of the tubers of Lepidium meyenii Walpers yielded two benzylated alkamides (macamides), N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-hexadecanamide and N-benzyltetracosanamide, which were elucidated based on 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses.
Journal ArticleDOI

The pericarp and its surface wax layer in maize kernels as resistance factors to fumonisin accumulation by Fusarium verticillioides

TL;DR: It is suggested that the pericarp and its wax content are resistance factors to fumonisin accumulation in most genotypes assayed, and other kernel factors could not be excluded.
