Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrafine particulate pollutants induce oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage.
Ning Li,Constantinos Sioutas,Arthur K. Cho,Debra A. Schmitz,Chandan Misra,Joan M. Sempf,Meiying Wang,Terry D. Oberley,John R. Froines,Andre E. Nel +9 more
TL;DR: The studies demonstrate that the increased biological potency of UFPs is related to the content of redox cycling organic chemicals and their ability to damage mitochondria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Particulate matter in polluted air may increase biomarkers of inflammation in mouse brain.
Arezoo Campbell,Michael J. Oldham,A. Becaria,Stephen C. Bondy,Dianne Meacher,Constantinos Sioutas,Chandan Misra,Loyda B. Mendez,Michael T. Kleinman +8 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that exposure to concentrated airborne particulate matter increases inflammatory indices in brain of ovalbumin-sensitized BALB/c mice and indicates that components of inhaled particulate Matter may trigger a proinflammatory response in nervous tissue that could contribute to the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development and evaluation of a personal cascade impactor sampler (PCIS)
TL;DR: The Personal Cascade Impactor Sampler (PCIS) as mentioned in this paper is a miniaturized cascade impactor, consisting of four impaction stages, followed by an after-filter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Field evaluation of a personal cascade impactor sampler (PCIS)
TL;DR: The Personal Cascade Impactor Sampler (PCIS) as discussed by the authors is a miniaturized cascade impactor, consisting of four impaction stages, followed by an after-filter.
Journal ArticleDOI
A methodology for measuring size-dependent chemical composition of ultrafine particles
Michael D. Geller,Seongheon Kim,Chandan Misra,Constantinos Sioutas,Bernard A. Olson,Virgil A. Marple +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a cascade impactor was used to classify ultrafine particles in 5 size ranges from 10 to 180 nm and then size fractionated and collected on suitable substrates using the NanoMOUDI.
