Journal ArticleDOI

Glucocorticosteroids and Transaminase Activity I. INCREASED ACTIVITY OF GLUTAMIC-PYRUVIC TRANSAMINASE IN FOUR CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH GLUCONEOGENESIS

TL;DR: It was found that in addition to the marked rise in the activity of this enzyme noted after hydrocortisone treatment, 5to 7-fold increases in liver glutamic-pyruvic transaminase activity occurred in fasted and diabetic animals and in rats fed high protein rations, a finding substantiating the interpretation that the activity is rate-limiting in the conversion of protein to carbohydrate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relation of folic acid reductase to amethopterin resistance in cultured mammalian cells.

TL;DR: Two lines of cultured Sarcoma 180 cells resistant to amethop- terin have been studied and the relationship between folinic acid and amethopterin is discussed and a suggestion is made concerning the possible site of action involved.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biosynthesis of tetrahydrobiopterin by de novo and salvage pathways in adrenal medulla extracts, mammalian cell cultures, and rat brain in vivo.

TL;DR: Mammalian cells and tissues were found to have two pathways for the biosynthesis of tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4): the conversion of GTP to BH4 by a methotrexate-insensitive de novo pathway and a pterin salvage pathway dependent on dihydrofolate reductase.
