Journal ArticleDOI
Quantifying 60 years of declining European eel (Anguilla anguilla L., 1758) fishery yields in Mediterranean coastal lagoons
Emilius A. Aalto,Emilius A. Aalto,Fabrizio Capoccioni,Juan Terradez Mas,Marcello Schiavina,Chiara Leone,Giulio A. De Leo,Eleonora Ciccotti +7 more
TL;DR: The European eel Anguilla anguilla is thought to be in a multi-decadal decline across its range as discussed by the authors, and little is known about the historical trend and current status of eel stock in the Mediterranean Sea.

Journal ArticleDOI
Quality assessment of escaping silver eel (Anguilla anguilla L.) to support management and conservation strategies in Mediterranean coastal lagoons.
Fabrizio Capoccioni,Chiara Leone,Claude Belpaire,Govindan Malarvannan,Giulia Poma,Giovanna De Matteis,Lorenzo Tancioni,Michela Contò,S. Failla,Adrian Covaci,Eleonora Ciccotti +10 more
TL;DR: A good quality status of escaping silver eels, for both lagoons, was highlighted by the use of integrative Indexes, and results stand for the suitability of an integrated approach to assess lagoon habitats and eel local stocks quality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stage-specific distribution models can predict eel (Anguilla anguilla) occurrence during settlement in coastal lagoons
Chiara Leone,Matteo Zucchetta,Fabrizio Capoccioni,Maria Flavia Gravina,Piero Franzoi,Eleonora Ciccotti +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the dynamics of local scale recruitment and of settlement in a coastal lagoon in the Mediterranean area, also by setting up a specific methodological approach, using data from field surveys in combination with Species Distribution Models (SDMs) to relate distribution of eel juvenile stages to the environmental conditions within the lagoon.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fish movements and schooling behavior across the tidal channel in a Mediterranean coastal lagoon: An automated approach using acoustic imaging
Fabrizio Capoccioni,Chiara Leone,Domitilla Pulcini,Massimo Cecchetti,Alessandro Rossi,Eleonora Ciccotti +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a high-frequency acoustic camera was used for fish monitoring in the Caprolace lagoon in central Italy, where a total of 266,717 fishes passed across the acoustic cone of the camera and two typologies of schooling events were documented, based on fish numbers making up the groups.
