Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis, Crystal Structures, Linear and Nonlinear Optical Properties, and Theoretical Studies of (p‐R‐Phenyl)‐, (p‐R‐Phenylethynyl)‐, and (E)‐[2‐(p‐R‐Phenyl)ethenyl]dimesitylboranes and Related Compounds
Zheng Yuan,Christopher D. Entwistle,Jonathan C. Collings,David Albesa-Jové,Andrei S. Batsanov,Judith A. K. Howard,Nicholas J. Taylor,Hanns Martin Kaiser,Dieter E. Kaufmann,Suk Yue Poon,Wai Yeung Wong,Christophe Jardin,Sofiane Fathallah,Abdou Boucekkine,Jean François Halet,Todd B. Marder,Todd B. Marder +16 more
TL;DR: The molecular structures of the (p-R-phenyl)dimesitylboranes, which have been determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements, offer evidence of increased conjugation in the ground state with increased donor strength of the R substituent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Linear and nonlinear optical properties of three-coordinate organoboron compounds
Zheng Yuan,Jonathan C. Collings,Nicholas J. Taylor,Todd B. Marder,Todd B. Marder,Christophe Jardin,Jean-François Halet +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a series of symmetric compounds of the general form (mes)2 B⇐X⇒B(mes) 2 [mes=mesityl=2,4,6 Me3C6H2; ⇐X ⇒=conjugated organic π system such as −(p-C 6H4)n− or trans-trans−CH=CH-n−, p-C6h4n− CH=CH−CH−, CH− CH−
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural, Electronic, and Magnetic Properties of Ternary Rare-Earth Metal Borocarbides R5B2C5 (R=Y, Ce–Tm) Containing BC2 “Molecules”
Emmanuelle Bidaud,Kurt Hiebl,Rolf-Dieter Hoffmann,Rainer Pöttgen,Christophe Jardin,Josef Bauer,Régis Gautier,Patrick Gougeon,Jean-Yves Saillard,Jean-François Halet +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the electronic structure and chemical bonding of rare-earth metal borocarbides were analyzed using extended Huckel tight-binding and density functional theory calculations, revealing a rather strong covalency between the metallic matrix and the BC 2 groups and the isolated carbon atoms, respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gd5Si2B8: a ternary rare-earth-metal silicide boride compound.
Volodymyr Babizhetskyy,Volodymyr Babizhetskyy,Jérome Roger,Stéphanie Députier,Roland Guérin,Régis Jardin,Josef Bauer,Kurt Hiebl,Christophe Jardin,Jean-Yves Saillard,Jean-François Halet +10 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis, characterization, and structural and theoretical analysis of Gd4B3C4: a novel rare earth metal borocarbide containing two different boron-carbon arrangements.
Christophe Jardin,Oliver Oeckler,Hansjuergen Mattausch,Arndt Simon,Jean-Francois Halet,Jean-Yves Saillard,Josef Bauer +6 more
TL;DR: Gd4B3C4 is the first characterized member of the rare earth metal borocarbide series in which both 1-D and "molecular" 0-D nonmetal atom systems coexist.
