Journal ArticleDOI
Determinants of mortality for necrotizing soft-tissue infections.
TL;DR: Early debridement of NSTi was associated with a significant decrease in mortality, and S. pyogenes infection was the most common cause of monomicrobial NSTI, but was not associated with an increased mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incidence and location of ectopic abnormal parathyroid glands.
TL;DR: A 16% incidence of ectopic parathyroid glands and a 100% positive predictive value of sESTamibi scintigraphy underscore the importance of sestamibi imaging in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: These clinical guidelines analyze the indications for thyroidectomy as well as its definitions, technique, morbidity, and outcomes and were created to assist clinicians in the optimal surgical management of thyroid disease.
Journal Article
Risk factors for postthyroidectomy hypocalcemia.
TL;DR: It is suggested that other factors besides parathyroid injury, ischemia, or removal are involved in the pathogenesis of postthyroidectomy hypocalcemia, and an elevated free thyroxine level, substernal thyroid disease, and carcinoma are risk factors for postthyrodisection, and their presence should warrant routine postoperative calcium measurement.
Journal Article
Non-diagnostic fine needle aspiration biopsy: a dilemma in management of nodular thyroid disease.
TL;DR: Surgical treatment of persistent "non-diagnostic" FNAB in a dominant hypofunctioning nodule is indicated for the male patient, radiation-associated nodular thyroid disease, recurrent cysts, compression symptoms, and failure of a 6-month trial of thyroid suppression.
