Journal ArticleDOI
Taxonomy of Moenkhausia australis Eigenmann, 1908 (Characiformes, Characidae) with a discussion on its phylogenetic relationships.
TL;DR: The results, based on both molecular and morphological data, support the validity of Moenkhausia australis, which can be readily distinguished from the other members of the group by possessing the following combination of characters: complete lateral line, 23-27 scales in the lateral lines, and five scales series above and below the lateral line.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical chromosome mapping of opsin and c-ski genes in Oreochromis niloticus (Cichlidae, Perciformes)
Andréia B Poletto,Karen L. Carleton,Thomas D. Kocher,Claudio Oliveira,Fausto Foresti,Cesar Martins +5 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic markers indicate that hybrids of Pseudoplatystoma (Siluriformes, Pimelodidae) are reproducing in natural environments in southeastern Brazil
Diogo Freitas-Souza,André Batista Nobile,Fernanda Dotti do Prado,Érica Alves Serrano,Felipe Pontieri de Lima,Fausto Foresti,Fábio Porto-Foresti,Claudio Oliveira +7 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Occurrence of serrassalmidae hybrid fish in the amazon river basin, brazil
Felipe Pontieri de Lima,Andrea Abrigato de Freitas Mourão,André Batista Nobile,Diogo Freitas-Souza,Fausto Foreti,Claudio Oliveira,Fábio Porto Foreti +6 more
TL;DR: The studied sample had a heterozygous electrophoretic profile revealing itself as a hybrid between Piaractus brachypomus and Colossoma macropomum being the second species the maternal parent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cytogenetic and molecular characteristics of Potamotrygon motoro and Potamotrygon sp. (Chondrichthyes, Myliobatiformes, Potamotrygonidae) from the Amazon basin: Implications for the taxonomy of the genus.

TL;DR: In this paper, the chromosomes of two freshwater stingrays, Potamotrygon motoro (P. motoro), from the Amazon River basin in Brazil were investigated using integrated molecular (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1) and cytogenetic analyses.
