Chromosomal Mapping of Repetitive DNAs in Characidium (Teleostei, Characiformes): Genomic Organization and Diversification of ZW Sex Chromosomes.

TL;DR: In this paper, a W-specific probe and comparative chromosome mapping of repetitive sequences, including ribosomal clusters and 4 microsatellite motifs, were performed in 6 Characidium species, 5 of which possessed a heteromorphic ZZ/ZW sex chromosome system.
Journal Article

The occurrence and geographic distribution of Xiphinema and Xiphidorus species (Nematoda: Longidoridae) in Brazil

TL;DR: A dichotomous key for the identification of Xiphinema species reported in Brazil is presented and several of these spe-cies are important economically as they are efficient vec-tors of several members of the genus Nepovirus that cause diseases in a wide range of fruit and vegetable crops.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fatty acid and cholesterol content, chemical composition and sensory evaluation of horsemeat

TL;DR: The fatty acid and chemical composition and cholesterol concentration of horsemeat, and its taste acceptability by the Brazilian population, were determined and the sensory evaluation revealed excellent acceptability.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new miniature characid (Ostariophysi: Characiformes: Characidae), with phylogenetic position inferred from morphological and molecular data.

TL;DR: Erythrocharax altipinnis is described from the Serra do Cachimbo, Pará, Brazil and has the pelvic bones firmly attached through the isquiatic processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

A natural triploid in Trichomycterus davisi (Siluriformes, Trichomycteridae): mitotic and meiotic characterization by chromosome banding and synaptonemal complex analyses.

TL;DR: Analysis of the synaptonemal complex by electronic microscopy shows that there is an incomplete pairing of the third set of chromosomes in the triploid individual of Trichomycterus davisi.
