Journal ArticleDOI
Sex hormones and their influence on chronic kidney disease.
TL;DR: Male gender is associated with worse CKD progression and this fact may be ascribed to sex hormone, although male hormones exert a deleterious effect in terms of increasing oxidative stress, activating RAS system, and worsening fibrosis within the damaged kidney.
Journal ArticleDOI
Matrix Metalloproteinases in Diabetic Kidney Disease
Nuria Garcia-Fernandez,Conxita Jacobs-Cachá,José María Mora-Gutiérrez,Ander Vergara,Josune Orbe,María José Soler +5 more
TL;DR: The importance of the MMPs within the kidney and their modifications at the circulation, kidney and urine in patients with DKD is focused and the most important studies performed in experimental models of diabetes in terms of M MPs levels, renal expression and its down-regulation effect are covered.
Journal ArticleDOI
A form of apolipoprotein a-I is found specifically in relapses of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis following transplantation.
J. López-Hellin,C. Cantarell,L. Jimeno,Ana Sánchez-Fructuoso,N. Puig-Gay,Luis Guirado,N. Vilariño,F. M. Nieto,Anna Meseguer,Angel Alonso +19 more
TL;DR: Urinary ApoA‐Ib is associated with relapses in idiopathic FSGS and warrants additional investigation to determine its usefulness as biomarker of relapse following transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Revisiting Experimental Models of Diabetic Nephropathy
Anna Giralt-López,Mireia Molina-Van den Bosch,Ander Vergara,Clara García-Carro,Daniel Serón,Conxita Jacobs-Cachá,María José Soler +6 more
TL;DR: The description of the new DN rodent models is focused on and an overview of the available methods for renal phenotyping is provided, to characterize the pathways that are involved in DN, identify risk biomarkers and prevent kidney failure in diabetic patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibition: towards an indication to treat diabetic kidney disease
José Luis Górriz,Juan F. Navarro-González,Alberto Ortiz,Ander Vergara,Julio Núñez,Conxita Jacobs-Cachá,Alberto Martínez-Castelao,María José Soler +7 more
TL;DR: Clinical experience suggests that SGLT2i safety management may in part mirror renin–angiotensin blockade safety management in patients with overt DKD, and proposed clinical steps for maximizing the safety of SGLt2i in DKD patients on other antidiabetic, BP or diuretic medication are proposed.
