Journal ArticleDOI
Anthocyanins restore behavioral and biochemical changes caused by streptozotocin-induced sporadic dementia of Alzheimer's type
Jessié Martins Gutierres,Fabiano B. Carvalho,Maria Rosa Chitolina Schetinger,Patricia C. Marisco,Paula Agostinho,Marilia Valvassori Rodrigues,Maribel Antonello Rubin,Roberta Schmatz,Cássia Regina Silva,Giana de Paula Cognato,Júlia Gomes Farias,Cristiane Signor,Vera Maria Morsch,Cinthia M. Mazzanti,Maurício Reis Bogo,Carla Denise Bonan,Roselia Maria Spanevello +16 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that ANT is able to regulate ion pump activity and cholinergic neurotransmission, as well as being able to enhance memory and act as an anxiolytic compound in animals with SDAT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between DNA strand breakage and oxidative, inflammatory and endothelial biomarkers in type 2 diabetes
Etiane Tatsch,Guilherme Vargas Bochi,Sílvia J. Piva,José A.M. De Carvalho,Helena Kober,Vanessa Dorneles Torbitz,Thiago Duarte,Cristiane Signor,Adriane C. Coelho,Marta M.M.F. Duarte,Greice Franciele Feyh dos Santos Montagner,Ivana Beatrice Mânica da Cruz,Rafael Noal Moresco +12 more
TL;DR: The findings showed an increase of DNA damage in type 2 diabetes especially in those patients with poor glycemic control and associations among NOx, IL-6 and urinary albumin levels with DNA damage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Berberine protects against memory impairment and anxiogenic-like behavior in rats submitted to sporadic Alzheimer's-like dementia: Involvement of acetylcholinesterase and cell death.
Juliana Sorraila de Oliveira,Fátima Husein Abdalla,Guilherme Lopes Dornelles,Stephen A. Adefegha,Taís Vidal Palma,Cristiane Signor,Jamile da Silva Bernardi,Jucimara Baldissarelli,Luana Suéling Lenz,Luana Pereira Magni,Maribel Antonello Rubin,Micheli M. Pillat,Cinthia Melazzo de Andrade +12 more
TL;DR: Administration of BRB prevented the memory loss, anxiogenic behavior, increased acetylcholinesterase activity and cell death induced by ICV-STZ, suggesting that BRB may act as a potential neuroprotective agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spermine protects from LPS-induced memory deficit via BDNF and TrkB activation.
Pâmella K. Frühauf-Perez,Fernanda Rossatto Temp,Micheli M. Pillat,Cristiane Signor,Arithane Lorena Wendel,Henning Ulrich,Carlos Fernando Mello,Maribel Antonello Rubin +7 more
TL;DR: The results support that the protective effect of spermine on LPS‐induced memory deficits depends on TrkB receptor activation and is accompanied by restoration of mature BDNF levels in hippocampus and cerebral cortex, as well as increased CREB phosphorylation in the cerebral cortex.
Journal ArticleDOI
Guarana (Paullinia cupana) ameliorates memory impairment and modulates acetylcholinesterase activity in Poloxamer-407-induced hyperlipidemia in rat brain
Jader B. Ruchel,Josiane B.S. Braun,Stephen A. Adefegha,Alessandra G. Manzoni,Fátima Husein Abdalla,Juliana Sorraila de Oliveira,Kelly B. Trelles,Cristiane Signor,Sonia Terezinha dos Anjos Lopes,Cássia B. da Silva,Lívia G. Castilhos,Maribel Antonello Rubin,Daniela B.R. Leal +12 more
TL;DR: Guarana powder was able to reduce the levels of TC and LDL-C in a manner similar to simvastatin and partially reduced the liver damage caused by hyperlipidemia, and may be a source of promising phytochemicals that can be used as adjuvant therapy in the management of hyper Lipidemia and cognitive disorders.
