Viral Characteristics Associated with the Clinical Nonprogressor Phenotype Are Inherited by Viruses from a Cluster of HIV-1 Elite Controllers.
Concepción Casado,Sara Marrero-Hernández,Daniel Márquez-Arce,Maria Pernas,Silvia Marfil,Ferran Borràs-Grañana,Isabel Olivares,Romina Cabrera-Rodríguez,María-Soledad Valera,Laura de Armas-Rillo,Philippe Lemey,Julià Blanco,Agustín Valenzuela-Fernández,Cecilio López-Galíndez +13 more
TL;DR: Analysis of viral characteristics of the envelopes of viruses from a phylogenetic cluster of LTNP-EC patients suggested that inefficient HIV-1 Env functions and signaling defects may contribute to the low viral replication capacity and transmissibility of the cluster viruses, suggesting a direct role in the LT NP-EC phenotype of these individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Interplay of HIV and Autophagy in Early Infection
Romina Cabrera-Rodríguez,Silvia Pérez-Yanes,Judith Estévez-Herrera,Daniel Márquez-Arce,Cecilia Cabrera,Lucile Espert,Julià Blanco,Agustín Valenzuela-Fernández +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors summarize the knowledge of the interplay between autophagy and the early events of HIV-1 infection, and how auto-ophagy modulation could impair or benefit HIV infection and persistence.
Journal ArticleDOI
HIV-1 envelope glycoproteins isolated from Viremic Non-Progressor individuals are fully functional and cytopathic.
Romina Cabrera-Rodríguez,Veronique Hebmann,Silvia Marfil,Maria Pernas,Sara Marrero-Hernández,Cecilia Cabrera,Victor Urrea,Concepción Casado,Isabel Olivares,Daniel Márquez-Arce,Silvia Pérez-Yanes,Judith Estévez-Herrera,Bonaventura Clotet,Lucile Espert,Cecilio López-Galíndez,Martine Biard-Piechaczyk,Agustín Valenzuela-Fernández,Julià Blanco +17 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that Env clones from VNP individuals are fully functional and that the paradoxical CD4+ T cell count stability coexisting with high levels of viral replication is unrelated to Env function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Zika Virus Pathogenesis: A Battle for Immune Evasion.
Judith Estévez-Herrera,Silvia Pérez-Yanes,Romina Cabrera-Rodríguez,Daniel Márquez-Arce,Rodrigo Trujillo-González,José-David Machado,Ricardo Madrid,Agustín Valenzuela-Fernández +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of recent advances in the understanding of the mechanisms underlying ZIKV immune modulation and evasion that strongly condition viral pathogenesis is presented, which would certainly contribute to the development of anti-ZIKV strategies, drugs, and vaccines.
Journal ArticleDOI
HIV-1 Nef Targets HDAC6 to Assure Viral Production and Virus Infection
Sara Marrero-Hernández,Daniel Márquez-Arce,Romina Cabrera-Rodríguez,Judith Estévez-Herrera,Silvia Pérez-Yanes,Jonathan Barroso-González,Ricardo Madrid,José David Machado,Julià Blanco,Agustín Valenzuela-Fernández +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that HDAC6 acts as an anti-HIV-1 restriction factor, limiting viral production and infection by targeting Pr55Gag and Vif and the P72xxP75 motif appears to be responsible, directly or indirectly, for the interaction of Nef withHDAC6.
