Preservation of organic matter on Mars by sulfur

TL;DR: In this paper, the detection of organosulfur compounds comprising thiophenes, dimethylsulfide and thiols by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and evolved gas analyses, together with aromatic and other hydrocarbon molecules with distributions specific to the sample (i.e., not from the SAM background) indicate that some or all of these organic fragments released at high temperatures are indigenous to the mudstones.

Community Report from the Biosignatures Standards of Evidence Workshop

TL;DR: Green et al. as discussed by the authors proposed a consensus framework to plan for, assess and discuss life detection claims, which could help increase the robustness of biosignature detection and interpretation, and improve communication with the scientific community and the public.
