TL;DR: A nationally representative web-based survey of 1444 gun owners, fielded in Spring 2016, was asked about their participation in the private market as mentioned in this paper, and 238 respondents who participated in private market were asked about the behavior on their last sale and the extent to which they felt it was their responsibility to ensure buyers were legally able to own a firearm.
