Global Role and Burden of Influenza in Pediatric Respiratory Hospitalizations, 1982–2012: A Systematic Analysis

TL;DR: Influenza-associated hospitalization rates were more than three times higher in developing countries than in industrialized countries (150/ 100,000 children/year versus 48/100,000); however, differences in hospitalization practices between settings are an important limitation in interpreting these findings.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kathryn E. Lafond, +49 more
- 01 Mar 2021 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used meta-analytic proportions to global estimates of lower respiratory infections (LRIs) and hospitalizations from the Global Burden of Disease study in adults ≥20 years and by age groups (20−64 years and ≥65 years) to obtain the number of influenza-associated LRI episodes and hospitalization for 2016.
