Journal ArticleDOI
Relation between process measures and diagnosis-specific readmission rates in patients with heart failure
TL;DR: Hospitals scoring higher on evidence-based HF process measures had lower readmission rates, though the association seems limited to HF readmissions and is modest in strength and duration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of clinical risk in the out of hours hospital prior to the introduction of Hospital at Night.
TL;DR: There was significant inter-speciality variation in median response times and seniority of responding staff, particularly within critical care, which recorded the slowest times across the hospital.

Relative burdens of the COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS epidemics in sub-Saharan Africa in 2020
Derek Bell,Kristian S. Hansen +1 more
TL;DR: While all four epidemics continue, concentration on COVID-19 runs a high risk of increasing the overall health burden, further increasing global inequities in health and life expectancy, and needs to be guided by clear economic evaluation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Towards harmonization of microscopy methods for malaria clinical research studies
Mehul Dhorda,Mehul Dhorda,El Hadji Ba,J. Kevin Baird,John W. Barnwell,Derek Bell,Jane Carter,Arjen M. Dondorp,Arjen M. Dondorp,Lenny L Ekawati,Michelle L. Gatton,Iveth J González,Philippe J Guerin,Sandra Incardona,Ken Lilley,Didier Menard,François Nosten,Peter Obare,Bernhards Ogutu,Piero Olliaro,Ric N. Price,Stephane Proux,Andrew Ramsay,John C. Reeder,Kamolrat Silamut,Cheikh Sokhna +25 more
TL;DR: The rationale for proposed research standards and procedures for the preparation, staining and microscopic examination of blood films for malaria parasites is presented here with the aim of improving the consistency and reliability of malaria microscopy performed in clinical research studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of hospital services by age and comorbidity after an index heart failure admission in England: an observational study
TL;DR: Patients with HF are high users of hospital services and postdischarge cardiology OPD follow-up rates fell well below current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines, particularly for the elderly and those with less comorbidity.
