Endogenous Lobby Formation and Endogenous Protection: A Long-Run Model of Trade Policy Determination

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a theory of lobby formation within a framework in which trade policy is determined through political contributions and show that under certain conditions, free trade turns out to be an equilibrium outcome either when the government has a high affinity for political contributions or when it cares a great deal about social welfare.

Productivity Growth and Convergence in Agriculture and Manufacturing

TL;DR: Martin and Mitra as mentioned in this paper examined the growth and convergence of total factor productivity in agriculture and manufacturing in a large sample of countries spanning many levels of development over the period 1967-92, and found that the rate of productivity growth in agriculture has been higher than in manufacturing both on average and for groups of countries at different stages of development.

Trade Reforms, Labor Regulations and Labor-Demand Elasticities: Empirical Evidence from India

TL;DR: In this paper, a positive impact of trade liberalization on labor-demand elasticities in the Indian manufacturing sector using industry-level data disaggregated by states was found, and these elasticities turn out to be negatively related to protection levels that vary across industries and over time.
