Journal ArticleDOI
Lack of association between interleukin-1 alpha rs1800587 polymorphism and Alzheimer's disease in two Independent European samples.
Alessandro Serretti,Paolo Olgiati,Antonis Politis,Petros Malitas,Diego Albani,Sabrina Dusi,Letizia Polito,Stefania De Mauro,Aikaterini Zisaki,Christina Piperi,Ioannis Liappas,Evangelia Stamouli,Antonis Mailis,Anna Rita Atti,M. Morri,Manjola Ujkaj,Sara Batelli,Gianluigi Forloni,Costantine R. Soldatos,George N. Papadimitriou,Diana De Ronchi,Anastasios Kalofoutis +21 more
TL;DR: The preliminary data support the hypothesis the IL1A rs1800587 variants are not associated with AD, however C/T heterozygotes had more severe depression in AD compared to other genotypes, however the lack of a gene-dose relationship would suggest a false positive.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Treviso Longeva (Trelong) study: a biomedical, demographic, economic and social investigation on people 70 years and over in a typical town of North-East of Italy.
Maurizio Gallucci,Fausta Ongaro,F. Bresolin,U. Bernardi,C. Salvato,A. Minello,G.P. Amici,E. Barasciutti,Stefano Mazzuco,G.B. Gajo,S. De Angeli,Gianluigi Forloni,Diego Albani,Andrea Zanardo,C. Regini +14 more
TL;DR: The methodology and the first results of a representative study performed in 2003-2004 on people of 70 years and over, living in a typical town of North-East of Italy are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Associations of the plasma interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels with disability and mortality in the elderly in the Treviso Longeva (Trelong) study.
Maurizio Gallucci,G.P. Amici,Fausta Ongaro,G.B. Gajo,S. De Angeli,Gianluigi Forloni,Diego Albani,Francesca Prato,Letizia Polito,Andrea Zanardo,C. Regini +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that increased IL-6 levels in elderly are associated with higher disability and mortality, also independently of age and comorbidity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Presenilin-1 mutation E318G and familial Alzheimer's disease in the Italian population.
Diego Albani,Ignazio Roiter,Vladimiro Artuso,Sara Batelli,Francesca Prato,Marzia Pesaresi,Daniela Galimberti,Elio Scarpini,Amalia C. Bruni,Massimo Franceschi,M.R. Piras,Annamaria Confaloni,Gianluigi Forloni +12 more
TL;DR: A case-control association study in the Italian population found a significant association between the presence of PSEN-1 [E318G] and FAD and noted a significant decrease in the Abeta(1-42)/Abeta( 1-40) ratio in PSEN, suggesting a peculiar biochemical effect of this mutation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration and MicroRNAs.
TL;DR: This review focuses on the emerging roles of the miRNAs in the pathogenesis of FTLD and it has been demonstrated that TMEM106B gene, which protein is elevated in FTLD-TDP brains, is repressed by miR-132/212 cluster; this post-transcriptional mechanism increases intracellular levels of progranulin, affecting its pathways.
