Journal ArticleDOI
Sound-Driven Synaptic Inhibition in Primary Visual Cortex
Giuliano Iurilli,Diego Ghezzi,Umberto Olcese,Glenda Lassi,Cristiano Nazzaro,Raffaella Tonini,Valter Tucci,Fabio Benfenati,Paolo Medini +8 more
TL;DR: Auditory cortex activation by salient stimuli degrades potentially distracting sensory processing in visual cortex by recruiting local, translaminar, inhibitory circuits, via cortico-cortical connections.
Journal ArticleDOI
A polymer optoelectronic interface restores light sensitivity in blind rat retinas
Diego Ghezzi,Maria Rosa Antognazza,Rita Maccarone,Sebastiano Bellani,Sebastiano Bellani,Erica Lanzarini,Nicola Martino,Nicola Martino,Maurizio Mete,Grazia Pertile,Silvia Bisti,Guglielmo Lanzani,Guglielmo Lanzani,Fabio Benfenati +13 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that this bio-organic interface restored light sensitivity in explants of rat retinas with light-induced photoreceptor degeneration, suggesting that all-organic devices may play an important future role in sub-retinal prosthetic implants.
Journal ArticleDOI
A hybrid bioorganic interface for neuronal photoactivation
Diego Ghezzi,Maria Rosa Antognazza,Marco Dal Maschio,Erica Lanzarini,Erica Lanzarini,Fabio Benfenati,Guglielmo Lanzani,Guglielmo Lanzani +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that primary neurons can be successfully grown onto the polymer layer without affecting the optoelectronic properties of the active material or the biological functionality of neuronal network, and action potentials can be triggered in a temporally reliable and spatially selective manner with short pulses of visible light.
Journal ArticleDOI
A fully organic retinal prosthesis restores vision in a rat model of degenerative blindness
José Fernando Maya-Vetencourt,Diego Ghezzi,Diego Ghezzi,Maria Rosa Antognazza,Elisabetta Colombo,Maurizio Mete,Paul Feyen,Andrea Desii,Ambra Buschiazzo,Mattia Di Paolo,Stefano Di Marco,Flavia Ticconi,Laura Emionite,Dmytro Shmal,Cecilia Marini,Ilaria Donelli,Giuliano Freddi,Rita Maccarone,Silvia Bisti,Gianmario Sambuceti,Grazia Pertile,Guglielmo Lanzani,Fabio Benfenati,Fabio Benfenati +23 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a fully organic prosthesis for long-term in-vivo subretinal implantation in the eye of Royal College of Surgeons rats, a widely recognized model of retinitis pigmentosa, was presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lithium rescues synaptic plasticity and memory in Down syndrome mice
TL;DR: It is indicated that reestablishing a functional population of hippocampal newborn neurons in adult DS mice rescues hippocampal plasticity and memory and implicate adult neurogenesis as a promising therapeutic target to alleviate cognitive deficits in DS patients.
