Journal ArticleDOI
The Wnt antagonist DICKKOPF-1 gene is induced by 1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 associated to the differentiation of human colon cancer cells
Oscar Aguilera,Cristina Peña,José Miguel García,María Jesús Larriba,Paloma Ordóñez-Morán,Diego Navarro,Antonio Barbáchano,Isabel López de Silanes,Esteban Ballestar,Mario F. Fraga,Manel Esteller,Carlos Gamallo,Félix Bonilla,José Manuel González-Sancho,Alberto Muñoz +14 more
TL;DR: DKK-1 gene induction constitutes a novel mechanism of inhibition of Wnt signalling and antitumour action by 1,25(OH)2D3, and this effect is dose dependent, slow and depends on the presence of a transcription-competent nuclear vitamin D receptor (VDR).
Journal ArticleDOI
Exploiting oxidative phosphorylation to promote the stem and immunoevasive properties of pancreatic cancer stem cells
Sandra Valle,Sonia Alcalá,Laura Martin-Hijano,Pablo Cabezas-Sainz,Diego Navarro,Edurne Ramos Muñoz,Lourdes Yuste,Kanishka Tiwary,Karolin Walter,Laura Ruiz-Cañas,Marta Alonso-Nocelo,Juan A. Rubiolo,Emilio González-Arnay,Christopher Heeschen,Laura García-Bermejo,Patrick C. Hermann,Laura Sánchez,Patricia Sancho,Miguel Ángel Fernández-Moreno,Bruno Sainz +19 more
TL;DR: A 2D in vitro system for long-term enrichment of pancreatic CSCs defined by increased CSC biomarker and pluripotency gene expression, greater tumorigenic potential, induced but reversible quiescence, increased OXPHOS activity, enhanced invasiveness, and upregulated immune evasion properties is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
ISG15 and ISGylation is required for pancreatic cancer stem cell mitophagy and metabolic plasticity.
Sonia Alcalá,Patricia Sancho,Paola Martinelli,Diego Navarro,Coral Pedrero,Laura Martin-Hijano,Sandra Valle,Julie Earl,Macarena Rodríguez-Serrano,Laura Ruiz-Cañas,Katerin Rojas,Alfredo Carrato,Laura García-Bermejo,Miguel Ángel Fernández-Moreno,Patrick C. Hermann,Bruno Sainz +15 more
TL;DR: It is shown that ISGylation is necessary for pancreatic cancer stem cell self-renewal and tumourigenesis by supporting the recycling of non-functional mitochondria and the ubiquitin-like modifier ISG15 exerts post-translational protein regulation through ISgylation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The EWS/FLI1 oncogenic protein inhibits expression of the Wnt inhibitor DICKKOPF-1 gene and antagonizes β-catenin/TCF-mediated transcription
Diego Navarro,Noelia Agra,Noelia Agra,Angel Pestaña,Javier Alonso,Javier Alonso,José Manuel González-Sancho +6 more
TL;DR: The results show that EWS/FLI1 inhibits both DKK-1 expression as well as beta-catenin/TCF-dependent transcription, which could contribute to progression of tumours of the Ewing family.
Journal ArticleDOI
Induction of DNA double-strand breaks and cellular senescence by human respiratory syncytial virus
Isidoro Martínez,Verónica García-Carpizo,Trinidad Guijarro,Ana Belen García-Gómez,Diego Navarro,Ana Aranda,Alberto Zambrano +6 more
TL;DR: The results show that HRSV triggers a DNA damage-mediated cellular senescence program probably mediated by oxidative stress, and suggest that this program might contribute to the physiopathology of the infection, tissue remodeling and aging, and might be associated to long-term consequences of H RSV infections.
