Expression of α5 GABAA receptor subunit in developing rat hippocampus
Blanca Ramos,Juan F. López-Téllez,Jose Vela,David Baglietto-Vargas,Juan Carlos del Rio,Diego Ruano,Antonia Gutierrez,Javier Vitorica +7 more
TL;DR: The results demonstrated an early induction of the a5 subunit expression (at mRNA and protein levels) during the first postnatal week, peaking at P5 and decreasing after this age, which may precede the GABAergic synaptogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Learning improvement after PI3K activation correlates with de novo formation of functional small spines
Lilian Enriquez-Barreto,Germán Cuesto,Nuria Dominguez-Iturza,Elena Gavilán,Diego Ruano,Carmen Sandi,Antonio Fernández-Ruiz,Gonzalo Martín-Vázquez,Oscar Herreras,Miguel Morales +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that in vivo administration of a peptide that activates the PI3K signaling pathway increases spine density in the rat hippocampus and enhances the animals’ cognitive abilities, while in vivo electrophysiological recordings show thatPI3K activation results in synaptic enhancement of Schaffer and stratum lacunosum moleculare inputs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aging‐Associated Changes in the Pharmacological Properties of the Benzodiazepine (ω) Receptor Isotypes in the Rat Hippocampus
TL;DR: Quantitative autoradiographic analysis of [3H]zolpidem binding to coronal brain sections from adult and aged Fischer 344 rats demonstrated that the aging‐associated increases in the density of type I (ω1) binding sites were restricted to the hippocampus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regional difference in inflammatory response to LPS-injection in the brain: Role of microglia cell density
Cristina Pintado,Elisa Revilla,Maria Luisa Vizuete,Maria Luisa Vizuete,Sebastian Jimenez,Sebastian Jimenez,Luisa García-Cuervo,Luisa García-Cuervo,Javier Vitorica,Javier Vitorica,Diego Ruano,Diego Ruano,Angélica Castaño,Angélica Castaño +13 more
TL;DR: In vivo assays showed that after LPS-injection, iNOS expression was more intense in substantia nigra, a brain area showing specific susceptibility to neurodegeneration after microglia activation, whereas IL-10expression was more sustained in striatum, an area resistant to damage, support that microglial density is pivotal to control the balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory factors release.
Journal ArticleDOI
Postnatal development of the α1 containing GABAA receptor subunit in rat hippocampus
Juan F. López-Téllez,Jose Vela,Juan Carlos del Rio,Blanca Ramos,David Baglietto-Vargas,Consuelo Santa-María,Diego Ruano,Antonia Gutierrez,Javier Vitorica +8 more
TL;DR: A gradient of maturation between the different fields of the hippocampus proper (CA2-3 preceded to CA1 and DG) could be related to the high expression of CR positive cells and fibers during the first 10 postnatal days.
