Investigations on the Stranski–Krastanow growth of CdSe quantum dots

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the growth kinetics of the self-assembled formation of coherently strained CdSe islands and found that two distinctly different types of islands are formed in succession.
Journal ArticleDOI

Origin and consequences of a high stacking fault density in epitaxial ZnO layers

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors applied transmission electron microscopy to study ZnO grown by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy on Al2O3(0001) substrates and found that the defect structure of the material is dominated by an extraordinary high density of small stacking faults with extensions between 5 and 25 nm which induce a bright small-scale speckle contrast under weak-beam imaging conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Coexistence of planar and three-dimensional quantum dots in CdSe/ZnSe structures

TL;DR: In this paper, two well distinguishable classes of nanoscale islands were identified in CdSe/ZnSe quantum dot structures by optical spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Character of the Cd distribution in ultrathin CdSe layers in a ZnSe matrix

TL;DR: In this article, the character of Cd distribution and the morphology of ZnSe layers with nominal thicknesses between 0.7 and 3.6 ML were studied by conventional TEM and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) using plan-view and cross-section TEM samples.
