Journal ArticleDOI
The transcription factor Sox11 is a prognostic factor for improved recurrence-free survival in epithelial ovarian cancer
Donal J. Brennan,Sara Ek,Emma Doyle,Thomas Drew,Michael E. Foley,Grainne Flannelly,Darran P. O'Connor,William M. Gallagher,Sami Kilpinen,Olli-Pekka Kallioniemi,Olli-Pekka Kallioniemi,Karin Jirström,Colm O'Herlihy,Carl A.K. Borrebaeck +13 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the role of Sox11 in EOC revealed high expression of Sox 11, in 40% of tumours, who had an improved recurrence-free survival (RFS) and Multivariate analysis confirmed that Sox11 was an independent predictor of improved RFS after controlling for stage and grade.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of the RNA-binding protein RBM3 is associated with a favourable prognosis and cisplatin sensitivity in epithelial ovarian cancer.
Åsa Ehlén,Donal J. Brennan,Björn Nodin,Darran P. O'Connor,Jakob Eberhard,Maria Alvarado-Kristensson,Ian B Jeffrey,Jonas Manjer,Jenny Brändstedt,Mathias Uhlén,Fredrik Pontén,Karin Jirström +11 more
TL;DR: RBM3 expression is associated with cisplatin sensitivity in vitro and with a good prognosis in EOC and findings suggest that RBM3 may be a useful prognostic and treatment predictive marker in E OC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum HE4 as a prognostic marker in endometrial cancer - A population based study
Donal J. Brennan,Andreas Hackethal,Alex Metcalf,Jermaine Coward,Kaltin Ferguson,Martin K. Oehler,Michael A. Quinn,Monika Janda,Yee Leung,Michael Freemantle,Penelope M. Webb,Amanda B. Spurdle,Andreas Obermair +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the utility of serum HE4 as a prognostic biomarker in endometrial cancer in a large, population-based study was demonstrated. But the utility was limited to stage III and IV tumours.
Journal ArticleDOI
miR-187 Is an Independent Prognostic Factor in Breast Cancer and Confers Increased Invasive Potential In Vitro
Laoighse Mulrane,Stephen F. Madden,Donal J. Brennan,Gabriela Gremel,Sharon F. McGee,Sara McNally,Finian Martin,John Crown,Karin Jirström,Desmond G. Higgins,William M. Gallagher,Darran P. O'Connor +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, an integrated bioinformatics, functional analysis, and translational pathology approach was described to identify novel miRNAs involved in breast cancer progression, and miR-187 was identified as a key miRNA associated with poor outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gut adaptation after metabolic surgery and its influences on the brain, liver and cancer
TL;DR: How gut physiology adapts to the anatomical alterations from Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and vertical sleeve gastrectomy and the influence of these procedures on food intake, weight loss, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and cancer is discussed.
