Journal ArticleDOI

Amplification of pyridine nucleotide pools in mitogen-stimulated human lymphocytes

TL;DR: Human lymphocytes were able to synthesize pyridine nucleotides from nicotinamide or nicotinic acid but did not efficiently use tryptophan for the synthesis of NAD; these cells showed a marked increase in activity of the enzyme adenosine-triphosphate-nicotinamide mononucleotide (ATP-NMN) adenylyl transferase.
Journal Article

Synergistic antileukemic effect of 6-aminonicotinamide and 1,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea on l1210 cells in vitro and in vivo.

TL;DR: Treatment of L1210-bearing mice with varying combinations of BCNU and 6-aminonicotinamide produced a synergistic increase in life span; in some cases, the combination led to the production of long term disease-free survivors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Abnormal NAD+ levels in cells from patients with Fanconi's anaemia.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated here that cells from patients having Fanconi's anaemia have lower NAD+ levels than cells from normal donors, which may contribute to the disorders of DNA repair and congenital anomalies that characterize this disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Activation of poly(adenosine diphosphate ribose) polymerase by SV40 minichromosomes: effects of DNA damage and histone H1

TL;DR: The stimulation of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase by double-strand breaks occurred in the absence of hist one H1 and was further enhanced by adding histone H1 up to ratios of 2 to 1 relative to DNA.
