Journal ArticleDOI

N-acetylglucosaminono-1,5-lactone oxime and the corresponding (phenylcarbamoyl)oxime. Novel and potent inhibitors of beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase.

TL;DR: In all cases competitive inhibition was observed with 4-nitrophenyl-β-N-acetylglucosaminide as the substrate, and the mode of action of these novel inhibitors is probably that of transition state mimicry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cell wall-associated enzymes in fungi.

TL;DR: A facile and rapid fractionation protocol for catalytically active WAEs is presented, which uses crude cell walls as the experimental material and constituent members of each class displaying the same basic type of physicochemical interaction with binding partners in situ.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemistry and Architecture of the Mycelial Wall of Agaricus bisporus

TL;DR: In this article, a purified wall fraction was prepared from the mycelium of Agaricus bisporus, which consisted of 43% chitin, 14% KOH-soluble glucan, 27% β-glucan, 16% protein and 1-5% lipid.
Journal ArticleDOI

β-N-Acetylhexosaminidase: A target for the design of antifungal agents

TL;DR: This review provides biochemical, analytical, and biological background information relating to beta-N-acetylhexosaminidase (HexNAc'ase; EC 3.2.1.52) as an emerging target for the design of low-molecular-weight antifungals.
Journal ArticleDOI

A complex chitinolytic system in exponentially growing mycelium of Mucor rouxii: properties and function.

TL;DR: An hypothesis is presented for the function of the complex chitinolytic system of the fungal hypha in branching and, possibly, also in apical growth.
