K α fluorescence measurement of relativistic electron transport in the context of fast ignition
Richard B. Stephens,R. A. Snavely,Yefim Aglitskiy,François Amiranoff,C. Andersen,Dimitri Batani,Sophie Baton,Thomas E. Cowan,R. R. Freeman,Todd H. Hall,S. P. Hatchett,J. M. Hill,M. H. Key,J A King,J. A. Koch,M. Koenig,A. J. Mackinnon,Kate Lancaster,E. Martinolli,Peter Norreys,E. Perelli-Cippo,M. Rabec Le Gloahec,C. Rousseaux,Joao Santos,F. Scianitti +24 more
TL;DR: A Monte Carlo model with a heuristic model for the electron injection gives a reasonable fit with data measured by imaging K(alpha) radiation from high- Z layers buried in low- Z foils.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proton radiography as an electromagnetic field and density perturbation diagnostic (invited)
A. J. Mackinnon,P. K. Patel,Richard Town,M. J. Edwards,T. W. Phillips,S. C. Lerner,D. W. Price,Damien Hicks,M. H. Key,S. P. Hatchett,Scott Wilks,Marco Borghesi,Lorenzo Romagnani,Satyabrata Kar,Toma Toncian,Georg Pretzler,O. Willi,M. Koenig,E. Martinolli,S. Lepape,Alessandra Benuzzi-Mounaix,Patrick Audebert,J. C. Gauthier,J A King,R. Snavely,R. R. Freeman,T. Boehlly +26 more
TL;DR: In this paper, grid deflectometry techniques have been applied to proton radiography to obtain precise measurements of proton beam angles caused by electromagnetic fields in laser produced plasmas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fast electron transport in ultraintense laser pulse interaction with solid targets by rear-side self-radiation diagnostics.
Joao Santos,François Amiranoff,Sophie Baton,L. Gremillet,M. Koenig,E. Martinolli,M. Rabec Le Gloahec,Christophe Rousseaux,Dimitri Batani,A. Bernardinello,G. Greison,Todd H. Hall +11 more
TL;DR: Rear-side optical self-emission results from ultraintense laser pulse interactions with solid targets are reported, giving an indication of a temperature of a few hundred keV for the fast-electron population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Time-Resolved Observation of Ultrahigh Intensity Laser-Produced Electron Jets Propagating through Transparent Solid Targets
L. Gremillet,François Amiranoff,Sophie Baton,J. C. Gauthier,M. Koenig,E. Martinolli,F. Pisani,Guy Bonnaud,C. Lebourg,Christophe Rousseaux,C. Toupin,A. Antonicci,Dimitri Batani,A. Bernardinello,Todd H. Hall,Debbie Scott,Peter Norreys,H. Bandulet,Henri Pépin +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, shadowgraphic measurements showed the first space and time-resolved snapshots of ultraintense laser pulse-generated fast electrons propagating through a solid target, and the formation of highly collimated jets traveling at the velocity of light and extending up to 1 mm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental evidence of electric inhibition in fast electron penetration and of electric-field-limited fast electron transport in dense matter
F. Pisani,A. Bernardinello,Dimitri Batani,A. Antonicci,E. Martinolli,E. Martinolli,M. Koenig,L. Gremillet,François Amiranoff,Sophie Baton,J. R. Davies,Todd H. Hall,Debbie Scott,Peter Norreys,A. Djaoui,Christophe Rousseaux,P. Fews,H. Bandulet,Henri Pépin +18 more
TL;DR: Results for conductors (Al) and insulators (plastic) are compared with simulations: in plastic, inhibition in the propagation of fast electrons is observed, due to electric fields which become the dominant factor in electron transport.
