Journal ArticleDOI
Scalable production of large quantities of defect-free few-layer graphene by shear exfoliation in liquids
Keith R. Paton,Eswaraiah Varrla,Claudia Backes,Ronan J. Smith,Umar Khan,Arlene O’Neill,Conor S. Boland,Mustafa Lotya,Oana M. Istrate,Paul J. King,Thomas M. Higgins,Sebastian Barwich,Peter M. May,Paweł Puczkarski,Iftikhar Ahmed,Matthias Moebius,Henrik Pettersson,Edmund Long,João Coelho,Sean O'Brien,Eva K. McGuire,Beatriz Mendoza Sanchez,Georg S. Duesberg,Niall McEvoy,Timothy J. Pennycook,Clive Downing,Alison Crossley,Valeria Nicolosi,Jonathan N. Coleman +28 more
TL;DR: It is shown that high-shear mixing of graphite in suitable stabilizing liquids results in large-scale exfoliation to give dispersions of graphene nanosheets in liquid volumes from hundreds of millilitres up to hundreds of litres and beyond.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oxidation Stability of Colloidal Two-Dimensional Titanium Carbides (MXenes)
Chuanfang John Zhang,Sergio Pinilla,Sergio Pinilla,Niall McEvoy,Conor P. Cullen,Babak Anasori,Edmund Long,Sang-Hoon Park,Andrés Seral-Ascaso,Aleksey Shmeliov,Dileep Krishnan,Carmen Morant,Xinhua Liu,Georg S. Duesberg,Yury Gogotsi,Valeria Nicolosi +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the degradation of delaminated-Ti3C2Tx colloidal solutions was investigated and protocols to improve their stability were proposed. But the degradation was limited to 5, 10, and 15 days.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electronic Properties and Chemical Reactivity of TiS2 Nanoflakes
Clotilde S. Cucinotta,Kapildeb Dolui,Henrik Pettersson,Quentin M. Ramasse,Edmund Long,Sean E. O’Brian,Valeria Nicolosi,Stefano Sanvito +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the microstructure of oxidized TiS2 nanoflakes with atomically resolved scanning transmission electron microscopy was analyzed and a comprehensive model for their reactivity was proposed by means of first-principles simulations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Manganese oxide nanosheets and a 2D hybrid of graphene–manganese oxide nanosheets synthesized by liquid-phase exfoliation
João Coelho,Beatriz Mendoza-Sánchez,Henrik Pettersson,Anuj Pokle,Eva K. McGuire,Edmund Long,Lorcan McKeon,Alan P. Bell,Valeria Nicolosi +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a hybrid of graphene and manganese oxide nanosheets was synthesized using a single-step co-exfoliation process, which achieved suspensions in isopropanol (IPA) with concentrations of up to 0.45 mg ml−1.
Journal ArticleDOI
An in situ and ex situ TEM study into the oxidation of titanium (IV) sulphide
Edmund Long,Sean O'Brien,Edward A. Lewis,Eric Prestat,Clive Downing,Clotilde S. Cucinotta,Stefano Sanvito,Sarah J. Haigh,Valeria Nicolosi +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, Nicolosi et al. used advanced electron microscopy techniques to investigate the influence of different environments on the deterioration pathways of TiS2, a promising candidate for future energy storage applications.
